Back in the '60s and '70s if I wanted to buy hit songs I'd buy the 45 (new, or used from yard sales, or juke box stores) or the album. I never bought the compilation albums (K-tel, Ronco, etc.) because the songs were usually edited -- cut down from even the 45 length.
I don't know much about the compilations put together recently because I have nearly all of the old music I want, and what I don't have I download. ;D
So the question is just out of curiosity: are the songs on the compilations that you guys buy today, edited also? Or are they now turning out cds with full length songs?

[glow=red,2,300]I have a few compilations, like sixties ones and some seventies ones, and they are unedited. I guess since CD's can hold more stuff on them that they don't have to cut the songs any more. I download a lot too, though. [/glow]

Most of the compilations I have are unedited. I have bought some that after getting them home and listening, I wished I hadn't gotten. I guess the advice is be careful & buyer beware.

I've never had to deal with edits on compilations, unless they were the "Single edit". The "Further edited single edits" that appeared on K-Tel albums are a thing of the past, thankfully. However, the biggest problem with a lot of reissues are the re-recordings "featuring one or more members of the original group".

I've gotten a few of those, and was disappointed when the song wasn't the original version.

Its not even a new phenomenon. I remember back in the early 70s, going in to an "Oldies" store to try to fill-in my collection. I bought two 45s, one was "In The Still Of The Night" by the Five Satins. The other was "Let The Good Times Roll" by Shirley and Lee. When I got them home and played them, they were both re-recordings that sounded nothing like the originals. They were both pretty bad, and I was pretty pi$$ed. -- And it's not like they were discounted or anything.
