...checked out an artist or group on the recomendation of a Click/YL member?
Obviously, we all have a lot of different tastes and come from different eras of music. But has anybody ever been so intrigued by something they've read on this site (or YL) that they were inspired to check the artist out, when they may not have otherwise?
For example: I was inspired by Adam to check out early Journey (pre-Steve Perry). It turns out I really like that stuff better than the hits.
It just seems like recomendations, for the most part, tend to fall on deaf ears. I'm wondering if they actually don't.

Excellent, excellent topic, Pete! Wow, glad to know I inspired you on that! Any particular fave tracks that stand out? Now you need to try Martina! It takes forever for me to try new music, but there have been songs here and there that others, like Dawn, have suggested that I intend to look into sometime. Ken has suggested some newer rock-alt country artists like Uncle Tupelo and Wilco I believe(?) that when I have time and money I wouldn't mind looking into. Actually, I have so many albums where I don't know all the cuts, so I was going to start doing the opposite on the Click. That is ASK people for specific recommended cuts from said albums.

Well, to some degree. Pete has convinced me to check out the Smiths when I can scrape a few bucks together.
What I enjoy most is that people seem to be able to fill in the blanks for me - I know the song but not the artist, or the opposite.
That is of great value to me and I really appreciate it. In some cases, I had the songs on CD's I owned already.
I know I've done a little recommending and was glad to see people liked what I said.

Great topic, Pete!
I have most definitely.
On Sat's recommendation, I've been listening to some Poco,.
Railyn's What are Words For led me to investigate Queen's These Are the Days of our Lives.
Dave's mention of the original of Barry Manilow's "Mandy" actually being Brandy by Scott English made me check that out.
and someone on this board (maybe it was Shane) got me to listen to some Martina McBride.
There have been others as well.

Around Sept of 01, he started crap about me making country posts on YL, stating that it was a "pop" music board, so that is all that could be discussed there. Kathyb remembers that scandal REAL well!

Y'know. That's funny. I joined YL in August of '01, and didn't really know anyone at first. But I remember the name "Arnie" and him being particularly obnoxious, and I think, arguing with a lot of people. Didn't he go by another name also, and use the other name as a user name and then just sign his posts "Arnie"?

His full user name was Arnie Artuni. I think that was the spelling. Yeah, he argued with people all the time, putting down all my Martina posts, and any other posts. I would also notice him arguing on the sports board about baseball and other things. And when I first did my INSANE list, I printed my top 100 first, explaining that it was my PERSONAL list, and he blasted me for not having Hey Jude in the top 100. Whatever. Maybe he and Shane are having a taffy pull somewhere.

Absolutely!
Not long after I joined YL, I made a post asking whether Chilliwack's 'I Believe' was on any compilation CDs. Dave told me about Barry Scott's Lost 45s CDs, and I found out that they contained another song I'd been hoping to find for years! I got both CDs shortly after that.
Also, I've got a long list of CDs I hope to get someday, and many of those are by artists who have been recommended by people here on the Click.
Talking with Sat has got me interested in Martina McBride's music, as well as older Yes, Poco, The Cryan' Shames, and the New Colony Six, among others.
From Ken's recommendations, I plan to check out Badfinger's work. What I've heard so far has been really good.
Pete, you've got me curious about some of the lesser-known Beach Boys material, particularly from the 70's.
Railyn's lyrics posts have got me interested in getting some of Weird Al's CDs.
In general, I've found myself more willing to try out new artists based on the recommendations of fellow Click members, and it has led me to discover some really great music.

Maybe he and Shane are having a taffy pull somewhere. I think I remember the Hey Jude thing, and Arnie wouldn't understand what personal list meant. Just like Shane never understood that the way YL was structured you couldn't possibly "waste space" with your Opinions Posts just because a lot of people were responding.

You and I became friends after we both read him the riot act a few times on YL. So, in a roundabout way, he did a good thing. And it was kinda fun yelling at him. LOL!

Yes I have. I know Bad Finger is one of Ken Frank's favorites. I seem to pay more attention to them when I hear any of their songs played on the radio. He's right, they're a good band.
Kevin 251 inspired me to appreciate REO Speedwagon.
And SAT- someday, I will check out Martina McBride.

I just saw the debut of her new video tonight! It's excellent, try to catch it!

Well this is nothing against him and certainly nothing against you or your judgement, but I want to wait right now and talk it over with Dawn. I hope this doesn't insult you!
