Can anyone think of any songs with similar beginnings? So far I have: Blue Bayou and Under the Boardwalk

Only Time Will Tell by Asia, and The Final Countdown by Europe sound enough alike that they always fool my husband. Teardrop City and Last Train To Clarksville by the Monkees both start similarly (and in fact, the songs both sound a lot alike).
I'll prob come up with some more if I think about it.

Well, " Dream On" by Aerosmith and No Doubt's " Don't Speak" have extremely similar beginnings. "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks and "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child have the exact same guitar riff in them.

The beginnings of Roll Over Beethoven (Chuck Berry) and Fun Fun Fun (Beach Boys) are not exactly the same, but similar enough so that I have to wait a couple of measures before I know which one I'm listening to.

Cool topic, Greg.
The main one that comes to mind is Working For the Weekend by Loverboy and Mississippi Queen by Mountain.

The first five notes of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and the Eagles' "Take It To The Limit" are almost identical.

The other day I was listening to On the Boarder by the Eagles and realized how similar it was to Bryan Adams & Tina Turner's It's Only Love on the opening guitar riff!

How about "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva and "I Wanna Be With You" by the Raspberries? Six snare drum beats!
