I think I mentioned this story once on YL. I was walking my dog one day, when I noticed my neighbor 2 doors down, who was moving, had a ton of garbage out. I noticed a couple crates, and looked closer. There was a TON of albums in there! I figured they were crap, but they were in better condition than mine!! So, I ain't too proud, I grabbed em! This guy was a music teacher, and we all know music geeks like prog rock! (Right now, Kitty, Camille and all the other band geeks on here are throwing daggers at me!) Anyway, there was a TON of Moody Blues albums! So my question is, beyond the hits, what are some songs I should listen to? It was basically all the albums from Days of Future Passed through Live + 5. Can I have some recommendations?

I fit the picture - I was a band geek, and I like prog rock! ;D LOL
I remember your telling me about those albums on PMs, and it sounds like you got some great titles! I can't imagine why those people wanted to throw them away, but had I been there, I would have snapped 'em up too!
Definitely check out 'Gypsy' - from To Our Children's Children's Children, I believe. It's excellent!

I also fit that picture From In Search of The Lost Chord I would recommend Voices in The Sky Dr.Livingstone ,I Presume Legend of a Mind Visions of Paradise The Actor The Best Way To Travel House of Four Doors (parts 1 and 2) From On The Threshold Of A Dream - I would recommend- In The Beginning / Lovely To See You Never Comes The Day To Share Our Love (kind of cool) Are You Sitting Comfortably? Dear Diary

The only Moody Blues original album we have is Days Of Future Passed, which I enjoy all of.
Otherwise, we have compliations. I can give you my favorites, but I can't tell you which albums they're on.
Ride My SeeSaw I'm Just A Singer In A Rock 'N Roll Band Tuesday Afternoon and my very favorite.....Question (I know that's on "A Question Of Balance" I believe. There's 2 versions. I prefer the one you can find on "Legend Of A Band: The Best Of The Moody Blues")
I like others, but those are my most favorites. Aside from the newer ones that I doubt were with that pile you picked up. I know those are more commercial, but just my opinion. I saw them in 1989 at Hersheypark Stadium on the Sur La Mer tour. Totally blew me away......

You're probably right - there's more orchestration on it - to me it makes the whole thing more powerful and that's why I like that version better.

Nobody seems to mention Seventh Sojourn, so I'll throw in my two cents here. There are some great album cuts on that one, including:
Lost In A Lost World New Horizons You And Me The Land Of Make Believe When You're A Free Man

Sure!
All of Days of Future Passed ("Nights in White Satin" got so much airplay, but it's not one of my favorites)
All of Children's Children's Children
Threshold of a Dream Side 1, I think (it'll have "Are You Sitting Comfortably")
The Lost Chord Side 2 (it'll have "The Actor")
My favorite songs:
The Actor
Voices in the Sky
Eternity Road
Gypsy
Forever Afternoon (Tuesday)
It's Up to You
Emily's Song
How is It We Are Here
OUt and In
Watching & Waiting
Tortoise & the Hare
Are You Sitting Comfortably
Have You Heard (The Voyage)

Unfortunately, that's one of the few early albums I DON'T have.
