I thought of this today, while I was thinking about how much of my collection I'm going to store on my nice new 80G hard drive. (We've probably talked about this before, either here or YL, but why not do it again?)
What artist do you have the MOST of in your collection? Vinyl, tapes, CD's.. Or just CD's if it's all you have. Bootlegs count, as do compilations (if they're not various artists). Box sets and multi-disc sets count as the number of discs they contain.
Me: I have around 75+ CD's of The Beach Boys (no surprise, I'm sure), and that includes solo CD's by Brian & Dennis, side projects, and numerous boots of unreleased material. On vinyl I have a couple of albums by them as a group and solo albums by Mike, Carl, and Blondie Chaplin. I also have the rare Flame album from 1970 (Blondie & Ricky's pre-Beach Boys group)
Second would probably be The Beatles, group and solo, and that adds up to around 30+ CD's.
Cheap Trick I have about 20, The Who around 20 as well, and The Monkees I have about 15.

I can't even begin to think here. I simply have a lot of stuff, but almost 1/2 are various artists compilations, from Rhino, Madacy, K-tel, Ronco, etc.
I tend to make tabulations of songs, including hits, from music artists (James Brown is surprisingly in my top 10, but all found on one box set, "Star Time"), with 49 hit songs.
But as for ALBUMS, not many artist really proliferate in my collection. The top artists like Elvis, Madonna, Elton John, and even the Beatles I only have about 4 or 5 albums from. Hmmm...I do have EVERY album from Mariah Carey, which is 11, soon to be 12. I have all the Mercury/Riva albums from John Mellencamp 1979-1997 Mellencamp albums, plus the first Columbia release and his recent 2-CD compilation, for a total of 14. (I guess John would rank as my #1 artist I have the most of.) I have all of ZZ Top's releases from 1973-2000, just behind with 13. I have 7 of the 8 Whitney Houston albums (only her 2nd, "Whitney", is missing).Including soundtracks, I also have 7 from Olivia Newton-John (3 are hits compilations). And yet another artist I have 7 albums from is Michael Jackson. Hall & Oates are not far behind with 6, including the hits compilations from 1983 and 2004. Also with 6 is Genesis. And with 5, including 2 hits compilations (All the best and Beyond is MUCH better than Records), is Foreigner.
In case you're wondering, I just have "Citizen Steely Dan" from them on CD and cassette. Gary Wright, I can only boast Dream Weaver and a hits compilation. Alan Parsons, just the 2-CD compilation and Eye in the Sky. And Cheap Trick, only Lap of Luxury, the first Greatest Hits, and their box set.

This is a good question since I have a lot of tapes involving certain artists. But you include imprts, solo works and offspring bands (Band composed of members from the original group) I have to say Deep Purple. I must over 70 albums composed of their albums, Ian Gillan's solo work, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Blackmore's Night, Roger Glover's solo work and other albums. My latest addition is the Machine Head 25th Anniversary Edition. which has remastered recordings and rehearsal recordings.
Other artists that I know I have at least 30 albums based on them are:
The Beatles The Monkees Yes Emerson, Lake & Palmer Mike Oldfield

Great topic, Pete!
The artist I have the most of is The Beatles, which added up to 66, including group and solo efforts. These are mostly LPs, with the rest about evenly split between cassettes and CDs.
In a close second place is The Beach Boys with 59, also including both group and solo albums. These are in CD format for the most part. Very cool that you have the Flame album! I haven't heard it yet, but I've read good things about it, and hope to come across a copy one of these days. I like Blondie and Ricky's contributions to the Carl and the Passions and Holland albums.
Following The Beach Boys is Chicago, with 20. As with the Beatles, these are mostly LPs, with the rest about equally split between CDs and cassettes.

Great topic
Not surprisely, Eric Clapton would be the artist I have the most of. Including stuff he did with the Bluesbreakers, Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominoes, his solo career, and a couple of concert albums with him and others, it totals well over 30. Bruce Springsteen comes in 2nd with about 20, including a couple of bootleg concert albums he did with Sting & Peter Gabriel and a three cassette bootleg concert set he did at Wembley. Fleetwood Mac, Waylon & Willie, & Alabama would probably round out the top 5, with Elton John, Beatles, CCR, Led Zep, Eagles & Three Dog Night right up there

Fun, fun, fun.
As most of you could have guessed, Bette Midler is my top one. I have all 19 of her albums. Five of those are soundtracks, but they include Bette-only tracks. I don't have any bootlegs because, quite frankly, I don't like them. I'm kind of the same way with DVDs. I don't like to purchase what I consider generic releases, meaning they aren't studio releases but rather lesser-quality versions released by a smaller DVD corporation.
Secondly is Judy Garland with 11. Again, there are soundtracks included (5), but these are ones that feature Judy in nearly every track.
Fleetwood Mac would be third. I have three Fleetwood Mac albums, totalling to four discs there. Then I have one Stevie album and the three-disc set, and a Christine McVie album. That comes to nine.
Like Dave, I have 7 for Whitney Houston. There's four albums (all of her studio albums with the exception of her most recent one, Just Whitney), the two-disc greatest hits set, and the soundtracks to The Bodyguard and The Preacher's Wife. I have Waiting To Exhale also, but that only has three Whitney songs on it out of sixteen tracks.
I also have five Reba McEntire and five Celine Dion albums. Anyone else, I have three or fewer.

I paid a pretty penny on ebay for the Flame album about 5 years ago. It's REALLY good, VERY Beatles "Abbey Road" era style. Maybe when I get my new computer, and get my upcoming new feature off the ground, I'll throw up a couple of tracks!

Well without question, it's the Beatles for me, although Elvis is getting close. Rather than getting his box set, I've opted to get his individual discs, which is much more fun to collect.
Of course, I'd rather be able to say it's Martina, but she's only been around a little more than 10 years. Plus, being a mom, she only puts out an album every 2 years, as opposed to the Beatles who were putting out 3 or 4 albums a YEAR. Also, Country isn't a big bootleg industry, although I have several live discs and such from people on her website.
I have no idea how many I have of any of these 3 artists, but I should count em up soon!

Badfinger - 27 CD's - includes all the studio albums, bootlegs and solo stuff from Joey Molland. I have all the vinyl as well.
Elton John - 15 CD's The Smithereens - 10 Cheap Trick - 9 CD's including the box set. Bryan Adans - 10

Ok. Did a little inventory of my vinyl albums. That took awhile, so I'll have to report on my CD's at a later date. I have about 1200-1400 albums in my collection, so I'm only listing the artists that I have 10 albums or above: 23 Beatles, not including solo efforts by the 4 Lads. 10 Pat Benatar 11 Jimmy Buffett--These are mostly my husband's. He's the Buffett fan. 12 Sonny and Cher/Cher 16 Carpenters 24 John Denver 12 Heart 11 Elton John 12 Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship 15 Kiss--Once again, most of these are my husband's. 15 Carole King 10 Lynyrd Skynyrd--You guessed it. These belong to hubby. 14 Mamas and the Papas/Cass Elliott 11 Bette Midler 12 Donny Osmond/Osmonds 16 Elvis Presley 25 Linda Ronstadt 29 Rolling Stones--Again, these are my husband's. 12 Barbra Streisand 10 Simon and Garfunkel/Paul Simon 11 Ike and Tina/Tina Turner 10 The Who I think that's it!

Ok, finally looked over my CD's, and I was actually kind of surprised that I don't really have an enormous amount of CD's by any one artist. Here's what I do have the most of though:
6 Aerosmith 14 Pat Benatar 10 Garth Brooks 5 Cher 6 Sheryl Crow 5 Celine Dion (Don't ask me how that happened. LOL) 10 Melissa Etheridge, including a couple of bootlegs purchased off of Ebay) 8 Amy Grant 13 Heart + a Lovemongers CD + Nancy Wilson's solo CD 9 Indigo Girls 7 Joan Jett + 2 Runaways 3 Janis Joplin + 2 Box sets 9 Madonna 7 John Mellencamp, including when he was "John Cougar" 9 Bette Midler 4 Stevie Nicks + her box set 5 Bonnie Raitt 7 REM 5 LeAnn Rimes 7 Linda Ronstadt 5 Bob Seger 6 Rod Stewart 6 Tina Turner + 2 Ike and Tina Turner 5 Wynonna Judd + 2 Judds 5 Weird Al Yankovic 6 Trisha Yearwood
These don't include Christmas CD's. I do have a few of those by some of the artists listed above.

Haven't really looked at my CD collection in a while - I have been starting to pick up some used CDs lately. Most of what I have are compilation CDs, but one or two groups/artists stand out as taking up at least five or six CDs or cassettes each:
Indigo Girls Loreena McKennitt Eurythmics/Annie Lennox Chris De Burgh
I am trying to build up my collection of artists I have liked for a long time but don't have much of like Rush, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Howard Jones and Simple Minds.
Maybe once I get my collection more organized I will post more details...
