Believe it or not, this is true! One of Future Shop's weekly deals had those "Essential" CDs (the 2-disc sets loaded with tunes) at 2 for $25. Now, that's a great deal (Canadian funds). And the '2' I purchased that day? Judas Priest and Barbra Streisand. At the cashier, a lady behind me remarked (quite loudly I like to add) in a sarcastic snarl, "Judas Priest and Barbra Streisand. Now what a combination..." I don't care what anyone says. I LOVE "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies and I'll crank it up in the car if I have to. As for the initial question, I don't think anyone made fun since I listened to practically anything. In public school, I made friends with this guy 'cause he saw that I wrote "Go Down Fighting" on my hand (in ink). He was also a "Nazareth" fan. Great questions/topics here!! Many people here have eclectic tastes in music. Barbra and Judas Priest is admittedly out there as a combination. But that's cool. (And I'm sure Lora will notice the fact that you like Barbra.)

I guess I could of elaborated more on my story/motive I knew about the deal and noticed last time at the store they had Judas Priest. However, in order to get that good deal, I needed another one. The Future Shop store at that time was limited on the selection and what they had, I pretty well didn't need. And so, I never planned on purchasing the two together. My comment earlier was the focus on the lady who instead of commenting or mentioning my rather aberrant taste in music, she merely mocked. I do like Barbra and since I don't have any of her albums, I thought it would be a good investment. Not to sound redundant, but I can see looking back on that woman's remarks and since I've never met her before, it's quite possible that it was just her sense of humour.

At the cashier, a lady behind me remarked (quite loudly I like to add) in a sarcastic snarl, "Judas Priest and Barbra Streisand. Now what a combination..." It IS an unusual combination, but she shouldn't have been snotty about it. I like a variety of different stuff myself.

...And just for the record, the last 2 CD's _I_ bought were Crawler (remember "Stone Cold Sober"?) and Nina Simone (did you know she recorded "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" a year BEFORE the Animals did it? I didn't know till I got the CD). I love both CD's--and I love amazon.com!

I get picked on all the time for liking old music. In high school I was very much into fabricated pop music (Nsync, Britney, etc...) but towards my graduating year, I re-discovered my love for 80's music (thanks to those late night Time-Life infomercials hehe). So I started putting up pictures of 80's Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, etc on my locker door and I would listen to my cd player at lunch and be listening to cd's I made with all 80's music on it. When the kids at school found this out they told me that I'm a bigger loser than they thought. It was only when I was in my band class, that "old music" became cool, because we (the school band) played Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. After that practically EVERYONE in my grade was into oldies, 80's, classic rock, etc... (I was still uncool though. Oh well, high schoolers are harsh). Also, I grew up listening to classic rock and to the oldies station (which is now no-more in Montreal, which SUCKS). I grew up listening to The Monkees, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Beatles, etc... and I love songs from the 30's, 40's and 50's. Swing music is COOL!!! I always got made fun of for liking old music like that. I never really cared much what people's opinions about my taste in music are. I like it so I'm going to listen to it. Even nowadays, people pick on me for loving 80's music so much. Apparently the 80's were cheezy and tacky. So what? I still think that New Order is one of the best bands EVER. I still get made fun of for liking oldies (70's and earlier). But more often than not, people tell me that my taste in music is pretty awesome ("for someone [my] age") and that I should consider being a DJ lol. Sorry if this post seems all rambly (now i have Ramble On by Led Zepplin stuck in my head). Its almost 2 AM and I'm on my way to bed

I have what is best described as an eclectic taste in music. Most of the CDs I own are of bands that were popular in the 70's and 80's because those were my school years. I grew up listening to AM radio initially, then my brother's 8 tracks and LPs. Grand Funk Railroad, The Beatles, Wings, ELO, Led Zeppelin, etc. I have in my car right now CDs of Howard Jones, Chris de Burgh, the Bee Gees, ABC and Indigo Girls. The last concert I attended was Loreena McKennitt.
Sometimes I get weird looks for my music selection, but I don't care. At a previous job, I was the 'go to' girl for anyone who just couldn't remember a song title or "who did that song from that movie". It made me laugh sometimes, especially when the person asking about the song wasn't even born when it came out.

I did when I was a lot younger. I remember my friend's mom just couldn't believe I was 12 and liked the Beatles---the music SHE liked when she was growing up. I also remember getting into arguments with my sister, who, back in 1984 claimed that Duran Duran was better than the Beatles. "But they're all old enough to be your father!" she'd exclaim. Wow....ALL of them? ;D
