Ok, we have speculated on who SHOULD be in right now, and Triple J had a cool post on who will be going in of today's artists.
Today's question is, who will be going in the Hall in the course of the next 5-10 years as they become elibible?
Van Halen-Someone mentioned them on my post. They were just eligible this year, and they should be going in shortly.
Cars-Again, eligible this year. Had the basic, short, pop-rock, new wave sound to them. Could go in after a few more years.
Pat Benatar-Yeah, she is lumped in with the arena rockers, but I think she'll have some respect for showing that girls could rock out.
Stevie Nicks-Has a huge following, including Sheryl Crow, Courtney Love and the Dixie Chicks. She'll get in solo.
Madonna-Without question.
U2-Dave suggested this on Triple J's post. They'll be going in any year now.
REM-Same as U2.
Metallica-Again, from Dave. No question, for helping same modern metal (before selling out).
Man, I'm at a loss! Let's face it, this time period was a weak time for new artists! LOL!
Maybe you can come up with more!

Van Halen-I can definitely see them going in, probably within the next 3 years.
Cars-I had somehow overlooked them when I was thinking of possible inductees, but they're an excellent choice for the Hall - should be in before long.
Pat Benatar-Definitely deserves to be there, hopefully within the next few years.
Stevie Nicks-I agree with your comments 100%.
Madonna-Absolutely, probably in her first year of eligibility.
U2-Another very strong candidate for the Hall.
REM-U2 will probably go in first, but I can see REM in there as well.
Metallica-Will definitely be going in.
I don't think anyone has mentioned him yet, but another possibility is Kenny Loggins - he did some good work as a solo artist as well as with Loggins & Messina.

Van Halen - I have no doubt in my mind that they will go in very soon.
Cars - It might take a few more years for them.
Pat Benatar - Yes. It would be great to see her in, and I think she deserves it.
Stevie Nicks - Well, SAT, you know how I feel about Stevie. I feel that she's the most deserving on here, but maybe that's just because she's the only one on here I'm a big fan of. It will still be a few more years before she's eligible, I believe. I'm having a hard time remembering the stipulations though. Is it 25 years after their first album release? Anyway, Stevie better get in her first year or I will be peeved! Excellent songwriter and one of the most respected female rock artists of all time.
Madonna - A lot of people have lost a lot of professional respect for Madonna these past few years, so I don't think she'll get in as quickly as many other artists, but she will go into the Hall. She's one of the most groundbreaking artists of my time, even if she is a little erratic at times.
U2 and REM - I also expect both of them to be in ASAP.
Metallica - Yeah, they'll get in, probably in their first year of eligibility.

All your choices, Sat--fully agreed. I forgot how influential the cars were to the new wave sound, and I feel there's quite a good chance. I've mentioned oh-so many in the other posts, but thought of another one today: Joe Walsh (solo/Barnstorm). A fun, great unique rock talent. The same could go for Warren Zevon (I don't recall--did he go in yet). Did anyone mention the Pretenders? Great chance soon. Also Huey Lewis, Billy Idol, and Motley Crue before 2010.

Warren is not in yet, but good choice-he has gotten a lot more attention since his passing. No, no one mentioned the Pretenders, but good one! I think of them with the Cars, Talking Heads, Blondie, etc as part of that whole new wave/pop of the late 70s/early 80s. I almost put the Crue on my list. From the stand point of hair metal, they were VERY influential, and that genre lasted awhile, but will the board diss them like the arena rockers? Probably.
