Jim Stafford wrote songs for the Disney film "The Fox and the Hound". Another artist who would later write songs for a Disney film (Tarzan, in this instance) was Phil Collins. Oh, that's right! Jonathan and I love "The Fox and the Hound", but I'd forgotten about Stafford having written the songs. Anyway... Phil Collins had a big hit with "You Can't Hurry Love", which was originally done by the Supremes.

And another Supremes song that found success in its own right was "Stop in the name of love" by the Hollies.

Two Hollies songs, Just One Look and I Can't Let Go, later became hits for Linda Ronstadt.

Linda's "It's So Easy" was originally recorded by Buddy Holly

Buddy Holly went down in that fateful plane crash with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.

One of Ritchie's biggest hits was Donna; another song with that name in the title (Prima Donna) was recorded by Chicago.

In the list of bands that are named after cities that have major league baseball teams nicknamed "The Sox", Chicago is joined by Boston. ;D

Boston recorded "Don't look back", but Nat King Cole recorded "Looking back".

Nat recorded a song titled For All We Know; a different song with that title was one of the biggest hits for The Carpenters.

Nat recorded a song titled For All We Know; a different song with that title was one of the biggest hits for The Carpenters. The Carpenters were likely one of the two most popular man/woman duets of the '70s. Sharing that distinction were The Captain and Tenille

The Captain and Tennille covered "Shop Around" from the Miracles. The Miracles were one Motown group that later in their run gave their lead singer top billing. Another Motown group that did the same thing were The Supremes

One huge act with their last #1 in 1969 were the Supremes. Another huge act scoring top spot for his last time in 1969 was Elvis Presley.

One of Elvis' most well-known hits, Don't Be Cruel, was later covered by Cheap Trick.

Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen was one time in the Nazz (I read in one source), as was Todd Rundgren.
