OK... enough of that petty bickering and complaning and putting frogs down each others backs. Let's move on to the next game. Our score after ten rounds: Dawn 12 Pete70s 12 KittyKat 11 telestrings 7 Triple J 5 55dodger 3 Sat 2 Laura 1 DaDooDaidy 0 Everybody Else DNP This one may take a while. I'll say right now that one song requires lyrics. (It's also probably the most inane theme we've had yet) Billy Joel The Fleetwoods The Rascals (includes Young Rascals as well) Name That Theme!

There were two routes that I've been looking at ... the first is a song by one artist that mentions parts of the other two. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the case because I can't see the theme. Anyway I'll give the songs and what-not: The Longest Time - Billy Joel Goodnight My Love - The Fleetwoods It's Wonderful - The Rascals Both Goodnight and Wonderful are mentioned in The Longest Time ... Now the second idea I had was sparked where you said this could be the most inane (empty, lacking sense) theme. Really I believe this fits very well with two of the three songs pretty well ... We Didn't Start The Fire - Billy Joel (He's) The Great Imposter - The Fleetwoods A Beautiful Morning - The Rascals Now in each of these three songs (especially "(He's) The Great Imposter" - I'll refer to it as "Float On") have lyrics that just plain and simply don't make any sense. On face value "Float On" could quite possibly be one of the weirdest songs lyrically ever written ... then "We Didn't Start The Fire" wouldn't make that much sense without the video to give more of an understanding. Finally "A Beautiful Morning" wasn't nearly as bad, but they did have a few moments of "What the"?! So basically the theme is songs that have lyrics that don't make sense (inane). Anyway ... that is my story and I'm sticking to it ... well until you tell me I'm wrong then I might work on another idea. ;D

I wouldn't have a theme where two different words from one song are in two different songs. And I'm not sure as to what you mean by "Float On", but your theme of inane lyrics is not correct either. Incidentally I don't find We Didn't Start The Fire inane at all -- and I'm not sure I've ever seen the video. Everything Billy sings about, I remember "when it was news". The song makes a lot of sense, actually. Keep on trying.

OK ... the contest is a day old, and we've had two guesses by Rob and nobody else. It seems people are lookin' judging by the number of times the post was accessed, but other than Rob nobody's guessin'. Rob, incidentally has been mentioned in several Name that Theme blogs as maybe being the favorite to win the tournament in his rookie year. What blogs you ask? None. I made that up. ;D Anyway, back to the matter at hand. We're a day old, and it's down to a four point game, and time for some hints. 1. I seriously think when you guess the theme, someone is gouing to say "that is the STOOOPIDEST excuse for a theme I've ever seen." 2. Of the three songs, two were big hits. Top 5... even bigger. The third song failed to make the top 10, but today, the title has achieved marquee status. 3. There's a key word (not the same word) in each song. In two of them, (including the song that didn't make the top 10) it's in the title. In the third song, it's in the lyrics. Now that's a lot of hints! Go get 'em. Gooood Luuuuuck!

Uhhh, if I'm right I'll be surprised. Piano Man - Billy Joel Mr. Blue - The Fleetwoods Good Lovin' - The (Young) Rascals Lyrics: I said, Doctor, . . . (Doctor . . .) Mr. M.D., . . . The theme is "Male" or what not?

Well here's my guess for the night ... Mr. Blue - The Fleetwoods "Like him, I am doubtful that your love is true"How Can I Be Sure - The Rascals "How can I be sure I really, really, really, wanna kno-o-ow"Honesty - Billy Joel "Honesty is such a lonely word Everyone is so untrue"The common thread is questioning someone's openess or honesty (a need for honesty) ... those are my three songs guesses and my guess for a common theme ... now the question is? Does my theme guess meet the the criteria of "that is the STOOOPIDEST excuse for a theme I've ever seen." ?

The theme is "Male" or what not? Well, Kitty, you are not even close. ;D (Actually you were closer with "whatnot" than with Male.) ;D Good try, though. That could be construed as the STOOOPIDEST excuse for a theme." and a good guess on the songs. You picked two very big hits and a song that didn't make the top 10. Since we're in to Day 2 I'll even say that one of the songs guessed so far - between Kitty and Rob - is the correct song. I'll also say it's the one song of the three in which you have to delve into the lyrics. I would suggest to everybody, however, to try to get the other two songs (with the words in the title) first. That's the only way you'll get the theme.

Just to make sure ... this post is including my last guess of "The common thread is questioning someone's openess or honesty (a need for honesty)"? I want to be sure that you saw it and that it is wrong ...

I want to be sure that you saw it and that it is wrong ... I apologize Rob. I did NOT see it. It's not right, however.. And it's not a STOOOOPID theme. You came up with a pretty damn good one I'd say. Nothing else has changed. The hints I gave still hold.

Well, two days in, and no winner.
The game is down to 3 points maximum for any one player.
Some more hints:
In one song, the theme component IS the title. In the second, it's part of the title, in the third it's in the lyrics.
Now .. go back to two clues I gave you yesterday, and read them carefully -- actually here they are:
Yesterdays clue #3. There's a key word (not the same word) in each song. In two of them, (including the song that didn't make the top 10) it's in the title. In the third song, it's in the lyrics. (I've kinda said the same thing today as I said yesterday, but not quite the same - put those two together and you have more information than you might think.)
Yesterdays clue #2. Of the three songs, two were big hits. Top 5... even bigger. The third song failed to make the top 10, but today, the title has achieved marquee status.
Let's say of the two top 5s, they're actually #1 songs. -- For the third song, read carefully what I said about it.
Good luck!

Now I can see a similarity between two of the songs but not sure if it all fits together ...
Come Softly To Me - The Fleetwoods Leave A Tender Moment Alone Good Lovin' - The Rascals ... the closest I can come up is "Squeeze Me Tight"
Of course I actually don't think it fits .. back to the drawing board.

Nope, nope and nope for the three songs and nope for the theme. Sorry Rob. Remember, I said that one of the songs IS the title. Another CONTAINS the title. Your guess didn't have that property. Suggestion to all. Look at the songs that have been guessed, look at all the clues, and try to put all the info together. You may know more than you think. - at least about guessing the songs. No one has been close on the theme yet.

I thought this was going to take more clues and a day or two more, if it would be gotten at all. Excellent job! You even figured out the marquee clue! A hard-fought three points for you. It's getting even tighter at the top. ...and the score: Dawn 12 Pete70s 12 KittyKat 11 Triple J 8 telestrings 7 55dodger 3 Sat 2 Laura 1 DaDooDaidy 0 Everybody Else DNP We'll start the next round Monday!
