After taking a year off - no, not due to the writers strike ;D - the fourth season of Name That Theme will begin Monday February 11th.
To inform some of the newer Clicksters who are new to the game, and to refresh the memories of those who have played before, I'm re-posting the rules here.
Name That Theme Rules:
I will list three artists (more occasionally). Each artist has recorded a song that contains a common theme with the other two artists.
All songs were in the BILLBOARD TOP 40 during the period 1955-1995 (since I am an old fart, I probably use more older than newer songs, but not necessarily always.
Sometimes the theme is in the titles; sometimes it is not. For example, one of the previous games had as three artists:
Paul Simon
Diana Ross and The Supremes
Three Dog Night
The correct theme was: Mothers
The correct songs were:
Mother and Child Reunion
I'm Living In Shame (mother is not in the title , but mamma is repeated many times throughout the song)
Mama Told Me Not To Come.
Sometimes the theme only becomes apparent when all three songs are revealed. For instance:
Foreigner
Sam Cooke
Eric Clapton.
I mentioned in the initial clue for this particular game that the songs needed to stay in the same order.
Picking the three correct songs:
Hot Blooded
Chain Gang
Tears in Heaven
.. and realizing that working on a chain gang connotes "Sweat"
The theme is Blood Sweat and Tears.
Anyway..
You get 2 points for the correct theme and one point each for the three correct songs. (Total: 5 points)
If no one gets the answer within 24 hours, I give an additional hint, and the value drops to 4 points. 24 hours later, another clue and another drop to 3 points, etc.
If I have to be off-line for a day or more, those days don't count in the points reduction, and I will try to warn you when I will be away.
In the event of two people with correct answers, earliest time stamp wins.
Oh, and one other thing. When someone wins a round, the next round starts THE NEXT DAY. -- But the time of day for starting rounds varies randomly so that there is no advantage for people who happen to be on line every day at a particular time. It can even start at midnight. All times are eastern.
And a new rule. New games will not start on a weekend, and although you can make guesses all weekend long, there will be no points deduction every 24 hours over the weekend.
--and remember ... first one to 50 points wins!
*******************************************
I suggest that you look at some of the older pages here on the game board to follow several of the games to see how they are played. There are several little nuances in the games, so look at several to see how they differ sometimes.
As I wrote this, the 2006 game rounds are on pages 3 and 4; the 2005 game on pages 6 and 7; and the 2003 game on pages 10 through 13. Of course, the more posts we have, the farther back the old ones go.
Pete is our two time defending champion, and he's going to be tough to beat. But I expect that some of our newer Clicksters like Grem, Alan and Juggie (well, Juggie is an old new Clickster ;D ) may give him a run for his money -- not to mention some serious competition from Dawn, Woody, Laura and others.
So ... study up. Name That Theme is now under way!
I will be glad to take questions on this thread.
