Both of these stories just breaking in the last hour. Of course, John Ritter was the son of country music legend Tex Ritter. Apparently, he had a massive heart attack.
Johhny Cash had been in failing health for some time, but it's still sad when a legend passes on.
R.I.P.

Oh no - what sad news. I always loved watching John in Three's Company when I was growing up - he had such a wonderful gift for comedy. Johnny was one of country music's most esteemed performers, and a true legend. Both of them will be very much missed.

I saw the announcement about Johnny over on Martina's board. He was one of those people that over the last few years I never remembered if he was dead or alive. But he lived a long, and definitely successful life. And from all I read, he and his wife were BIG time in love, so it's good he didn't have to be alone too long. RIP. So then my dad calls me, and whenever a celeb dies, he opens the phone call with a fake cry. I said, "I know, Johnny Cash". And he says, "And....." I couldn't BELIEVE IT when he said John Ritter. As far as non musical celebs that I idolized, John was one of them. Three's Company is an all time top 3 show for me. I don't care what critics say. It lasted 8 seasons, if you include the spin off. And I couldn't believe it made number 1 on "Bad Shows We Love" on E! It's a GREAT show I love! I loved John's style. I love the character, that of a bumbling, but lovable guy. He was one of the greatest physical comedians. The last one before him was Dick Van Dyke. And there really hasn't been one since. The funny thing is, I have just recently been thumbing through the book on Three's Company, Come And Knock on Our Door. I read it a few years back. It's so sad to think now there can NEVER be a reunion. He was MUCH too young. He is survived by his wife Amy Yasbeck, with whom he worked with on Wings, Cosby Show, and the two Problem Child movies. There is another music connection besides his father Tex. The Beatles poster you see in Jack Tripper's room was John's own. I have the same poster, and I used to hang it over my bed. He idolized them, especially John Lennon, and he met George before. Hope they are all trading stories right now. RIP John.

A double blow of very sad news.
With Johnny's death, the old Sun Records stable of superstars has shrunk to one. Elvis, Roy, Carl, and now Johnny are gone. Only Jerry Lee remains. The song of Johnny's that I always think of, and will most remember him by is I Walk The Line.
John Ritter's death was a real shock. Three's Company is a real classic, and Eight Rules is one of the few broadcast TV shows that I watch. John was a fine comedian.
RIP, Johnny and John.

What can I say except OH MY GOD(and I mean that absolutely reverently). Like JP said, even though we knew Johnny was in failing health, it's a shock to hear of his passing. At least he and June are together again. And John Ritter is gone way before his time. Say what you will about "Three's Company." but John was a talented actor and comedian. My thoughts and prayers are with the Cash and Ritter families.

Johnny Cash, The Man In Black, he was a voice for the forgotten man. The guy who works long hours in a thankless blue collar job to feed his family and to pay the house note. He came from poverty, struggled with pills and booze, found strength to overcome these challenges from June, the love of his life. He performed before inmates while others remained insulated from their fans by security guards and seventy-foot stages. His voice lacked range but it made up for this defecit with compassion. Johhny sang from his heart. He sang from his experiences of living a hard life and from tragedies he witnessed. He was real in an industry where being fake is almost expected. God bless this man and rest his soul. I'm sad to see him go . No longer shall he go down "in a burning ring of fire". Rather he shall become another "ghost rider in the sky". John Ritter gave me lots of laughs. Not just on Threes Company but in several feature movies as well. There is a particular scene in the 1989 movie "Skin Deep" where John, as a hopeless womanizer, visits one of his many lady friends at her clinic. As she has learned of his philandering ways she subjects him to electroshock therapy. The next five minutes of the movie are some of the funniest moments I've ever seen in ANY film. He had a knack for physical comedy like Dick Van Dyke, Chevy Chase, Jerry Lewis, etc. However, he'll always be Jack Tripper to me. Getting into embarrassing situations because he misunderstood a conversation between Janet and Chrissy that we was eavesdropping upon. That is, after all, the plot of every episode . He will also be missed, even if he couldn't sing. A sad day, man.

[glow=red,2,300]I heard about it on the Today show first thing this morning. My dad and I used to listen to Johnny Cash a lot when I was young. Him and George Srait. Like Jp and Smittykins, I was really shocked to hear that he had died even though I knew his health hadn't been the best for quite a while now. John Ritter was really a shock to me though. I never watched Three's Company that much, but I have seen him on various movies and TV shows and liked his performances. He was too young...only a year older than my dad, and he seemed to be healthy. That's what gets me the most. [/glow]

I admit I've never been a Johnny Cash fan, but he is legend and I respect that. He's in a better place now. I feel the same way, I never was much of a fan of Jonny Cash, but it's so sad to see him go. I was very impressed with his cover "Hurt". The death of John Ritter made me so sad. He was too young to leave. I used to love watching him on "Three's Company" and I thought he was great in the movie "Sling Blade".

Johnny Cash was my dads favorite singer. I liked quite a few of his songs. He has been in ill health for years, and I'm sure losing June made things harder for him..
John Ritter was a shock! No one even knew he was sick!
I wonder if they had ever met, since John's dad was country legend Tex Ritter...

Know something? Maybe I'm watching the wrong channels, but not one time have I heard anyone mention Tex Ritter in the details about John Ritter's death. I know they will mention Tex on the A & E bio tonight (And no doubt on any CMT and GAC coverage). I keep thinking about his wife--now widow--Amy Yaszwick (However it's spelled) and their children. As for Johnny, obviously it wasn't unexpected but it's still sad. (But I honestly thought he had just turned 80. )

So sad to have heard about the death of both Johnny Cash and John Ritter. I was a big fan of Three's Company in the 70's and remember seeing both in episodes of Little House on Prairie and remember seeing John in an episode of Hawaii Five O . I remember hearing Cash's music at a very young age. My prayers go out to both families
