One of the weaker years, IMO.
Buddy Guy Percy Sledge O'Jays Pretenders U2
Ok, although I am not a HUGE U2 fan, I fully agree, understand and expected it. They have to be the first act that is still making contemporary hit records while inducted. (As opposed to say, Rod or Van who get good reviews that are listed as "legends".)
The Pretenders I agree with as well. Part of the whole "new wave, almost punk" movement in the late 70's.
O'Jays is cool too-but with them and EWF in, where are the Spinners??
Buddy Guy is fine as well-he's especially a legend around here in Chicago.
Percy Sledge is one I just cannot understand. I only know the obvious hit, so I looked him up. He had 4 other hits. Not exactly huge ones. Was his sound SO different and influential? I swear, I think they have to have X amount of soul acts in. I never understood Clyde McPhatter and Solomon Burke going in so quickly (Honestly, at all since I know nothing by them!). It's nothing against soul or R&B, but it just seems there are tons of artists from that genre, while DC5, Moodies, Chicago, Guess Who, etc, are all waiting in line for tickets in Ohio.

I mean, his big hit is one of my favorite all time songs (#4 on my chart) - but c'mon! There's not much else there. I DO understand McPhatter due to his work with the original Drifters. ..and I disagree with you on the DC5. They were kinda rougher versions of The Beatles, but then the Stones took that away from them. I don't see the innovation there. But -- Chicago? ? What the heck is going on there? They initiated a new jazz-rock-big band sound, with huge success. They certainly should be in. -- and I agree with Pete on Jan and Dean as well as the underappreciated Ventures. -- and DEFINITELY the Spinnrers.

LAME! Worst... class... ever. Where's KISS? Where's Jan & Dean? Where's Genesis? Oh well. U2 & The Pretenders definitely deserved it. I wonder how many members of the Pretenders are going to be inducted. There were several lineup changes over the years. The jam session at the end should be pretty sucky. VH-1 can skip airing it this year.

Of course, 2 of the originals are dead.

I've always considered Percy a "one hit wonder" did he do more?? Buddy Guy (very cool!) U2 before The DC5 , Moodies , or Guess Who? hmmmm - they still deserve it even though I'm not a HUGE fan they had quite a few good tunes.

Only FIVE inducted this year!?!
Fully expected U2, and the Pretenders were no surprise also. Not much talked about here, but the O'Jays and Buddy Guy both had good longevity, so they're understandable.
But I think it's obvious all the Click, even Ed was surprised at Percy Sledge. He had a good, slow, soulful song, but nothing I'd call highly influential. Jerry Butler shoulda gone in before Percy.
And still waiting for John Mellencamp, Chic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blondie, Neil Sedaka...

Yet another year of no Chicago, ELO, Moody Blues, Genesis... Glad to see the O'Jays going in, although like you, I'm wondering why the Spinners haven't been inducted as well. U2 and Pretenders are definitely Hall-worthy also. But Percy Sledge, I don't understand either. When A Man Loves A Woman is a classic, but I don't think he has had enough of an impact on the music industry to merit Hall consideration.

LAME! Worst... class... ever. Where's KISS? Where's Jan & Dean? Where's Genesis? I won't hold my breath waiting for KISS.. Rolling Stone has HATED them from day one. They've been the biggest band in the world, but they've never made the cover. Ironic, since they found Peter Criss through an add in Rolling Stone!

Wouldn't you say there chances are better than say, Grand Funk? I think with RS it's all about their "darlings". The only "KISS" you'll see in there is them "kissing" certain artists asses.. But, KISS, Grand Funk, Black Sabbath, etc... not likely.

I'll start with the positive
Buddy Guy is an outstanding choice for the Rockhall.
U2, although I'm not a big fan, are Rockhall worthy.
Now the negative.
The Pretenders may be Rockhall worthy, but not before Chicago, The Moody Blues, ELO, & Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The O'Jays shoud be there, but not before the Spinners.
Percy Sledge. As they said on I Love the 80s Strike Back, What the !@#$ where they thinking.

Well, I am thoroughly disappointed. I don't know what I expected, but this line-up is pretty lousy. I'm kind of fed up with U2 right now. I think they could have stood to wait a few more years. I mean, like you said, they're still making music. Give it to a legendary band that is no more, c'mon!
