Spencer Dryden, the drummer for Jefferson Airplane from 1966 - 1970 has died of cancer. He died at his home. He replaced Skip Spence (who helped form Moby Grape) in the Airplane, and drummed on their classic albums Surrealistic Pillow, After Bathing At Baxter's"; the live "Bless Its Pointed Little Head"; "Crown Of Creation"; and "Volunteers."
He was inducted into the Rockhall with Jefferson Starship in 1996. He later went on to play in the groups New Riders on the Purple Sage and Dinosaurs.
RIP Spence, you'll be missed.

Wonder if he and Jerry Garcia are up there jamming on some New Riders tunes.
I once considered Spencer as a boy's name because I first heard of it from him.
RIP

Sadly, saw this on CNN news roughly the same time as with Bread's James' Griffin.
A great drummer indeed--RIP Spencer.
