I had a friend request a CD of all Motown music, and I'd like to make a nice compilation disc for his birthday. Can I get some suggestions from everyone on this? I'd like to stick to songs that were radio hits, or well known - I need to come up with 15 - 20 for the CD.

Let's see, Leese...
The Supremes- Reflections Love Child The Happening
Temptations- My Girl I Can't Get Next to You Papa Was a Rolling Stone
Jackson 5- ABC Never Can Say Goodbye The Love You Save
And for kicks, throw on Rare Earth's I Just Want to Celebrate! They were Motown, after all!
Hope this helps!

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Let's Get it On, What's Going On, Got to Give it Up If you're going for old Motown, only I Heard It Through the Grapevine will work for Marvin Gaye. Unless you use Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin and Tammy Terrell.

I would include the first Motown hit, "Shop Around" by the Miracles .. That would be a must have on any Motown CD. Great choice.

I own the Motown box sets.
Here's my list (assuming you're going to stop in the early to mid-70's). Forgive me for any mentioned earlier:
Smokey: Mickey's Monkey Ooh Baby Baby Tears Of A Clown Shop Around
Temptations: Just My Imagination (Runnin' Away With Me) My Girl I Can't Get Next To You
Four Tops: I Can't Help Myself (Sugarpie Honeybunch) Bernadette
Marvin Gaye: Ain't That Peculiar? What's Goin' On? Mercy Mercy Me
Stevie: Everything Is Alright
Diana Ross: Come See About Me
Mary Wells: My Guy
Martha and the Vandellas: Dancin In The Streets
Jackson 5: I Want You Back ABC
If you're going all the way through Motown, then use the following:
Rick James: Superfreak
BoyzIIMen: Motownphilly
Smokey: Bein' With You
