I have several Dickie Goodman singles, as well as an album called "The Original Flying Saucers", which compiled many of the singles by Buchannon & Goodman, Dickie Goodman, John & Ernest, and The Delegates.
I love those recordings, because they are like musical time capsules of the era in which they were made.

Man, did I have my share of Dr. Demento from 1984-1990, and again from 1999 to 2002. Some songs were so overrated, it wasn't funny. And other GREAT ones got only one or two plays. For the record, a comedy piece is either a sketch (as opposed to a song), or USUALLY a novelty piece done by a comedian performed before a live audience--Allan Sherman and Tom Lehrer, yes--Ray Stevens, no--his "live" effects were dubbed in). A novelty tune is anything out of the ordinary, I even would group the Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" and the Coasters' "Charlie Brown" here) A sampling: We are one (disgusting planet)-Too Sick Chik The public toilet-Barnes & Barnes Kill the Backstreet Boys-Tony Goldmark Another one rides the bus-Weird Al Anything by Jim Stafford Anything by Bob & Doug Any novelty by Frank Zappa (he wouldn't have admitted to it) I love onions-Susan Christie It's a gas-Alfred E. Neuman Bras on 45-Ivor Biggun & the D-Cups The old philosopher-Eddie Lawrence Nine coronas-John Mamosser And Dr. D's sidekick, Whimsical Will-EVERY cut-up he put together! Much more fun than Dickie Goodman! He was even a YL member! (did a post on some California museum)

Nine coronas-John Mamosser quote] Is that supposed to be a version of "My Sharona"? It sounds like the title would fit.

Those are so much fun! When I was little, a friend and I tried to make our own, using some records and mom's tape recorder. Well, we wore out the tape recorder and my mom was mad! But we had fun. One song I really liked (well, it was more of a skit than a song) was "Chaos" by Arbogast & Ross. They used to play it on Dr. Demento sometimes, but I never knew the exact title or artists' names until recently. It was a spoof of '50s radio and took place at a radio station called KOS (pronounced "chaos"). Very cute!
