Hi, all!
I got back from my yearly trip to Maine last night, and of course I had a great time as always, although I came home very sunburned and tired! One of the things I always like to do when I'm up there is stop at a small music store that is known for carrying a lot of obscure titles you usually don't come across very easily. So these are the three newest additions to my CD library:
1-Eternity's Children- I've mentioned this group a lot on these boards lately, mostly due to Starbuck. So it's kind of ironic that I came across a CD reissue of their two albums, and of course, I HAD to buy it. They hit the Hot-100 in mid-'68 with a tune called "Mrs. Bluebird", and, of course, one of the members later formed Starbuck, who hit the top 10 with "Moonlight Feels Right". I didn't know any other Eternity's Children songs but was curious to hear more. I find their sound to be somewhere between The Fifth Dimension and The Cowsills. There's 25 cuts on the CD, and I listened to the whole thing and didn't find one bad song! Highly recommended, if you can find it!
2-The Forum-The River Is Wide- This group was apparently a project of Les Baxter. They did the original version of The River Is Wide, which later became a hit for The Grass Roots (I've always liked The Forum version better). The CD includes their original 1967 album, along with several bonus tracks and no less than 5 different takes of the title song! The single mix is actually listed under a different title, I have no idea why. The reissue of this and the Eternity's Children disc are both on the same "rev-ola" label.
3-Pet Projects-The Brian Wilson Productions- I was PSYCHED to find this, because it has a lot of 45's that are nearly impossible to find today! Check out this line-up:
1. Run Around Lover - Sharon Marie
2. Thinkin Bout You Baby (Early version of "Darlin"!!)- Sharon Marie
3. Pamela Jean - The Survivors
4. After The Game - The Survivors
5. Sacramento - Gary Usher
6. That's The Way I Feel - Gary Usher
7. The One You Can't Have - The Honeys
8. Surfin' Down The Swannie River - The Honey
9. Summertime - Sharon Marie
10. Hide Go Seek - The Honeys
11. Shyin Away - American Spring
12. Pray For Surf - The Honeys
13. Shoot The Curl - The Honeys
14. Vegetables - The Laughing Gravy
15. The Revo-Lution - Rachel & The Revolvers
16. Number One - Rachel & The Revolvers
17. She Rides With Me - Paul Petersen
18. Guess I'm Dumb - Glen Campbell
19. Story Of My Life - Sharon Marie
20. He's A Doll - The Honeys
21. Tonight You Belong To Me - The Honeys
22. Goodnight My Love - The Honeys
I've been looking for some of these tracks for YEARS!! There is a very diverse mix on this CD, and the company that put it out (ACE) did an EXCELLENT job on it!
All in all, three great CD's I'm glad I purchased!
