Ok, back to the old INSANE list! Glad so many people wanted this to return! I'm pretty excited about it.
This time, instead of just listing 100 songs, I'm gonna list 20, with comments. And I ASK that you please make SOME sort of comment to each song, even if it's a "Don't know it". I am curious what people think of each song. So this is sort of a combo of the INSANE list with the Opinion post.
It's gonna take awhile. And I am still in the process of tweaking the numbers and adding in new songs I have learned the past two years. So for right now, the number rankings are APPROXIMATE.
Again, I'd love if you would comment on each song.
THANKS!!
6365. I'm Stone in Love With You-Stylistics 1972
Just not my style. I don't dig that early 70's harmony R&B. Especially the high pitched voices. To me, this is where Boys II Men came from. Nuff said.
6364. Feelings-Morris Albert 1975
Probably one of the most corny songs of all time. I am lucky to have not heard this in YEARS.
6363. Church of the Poison Mind-Culture Club 1983
Culture Club was bad, especially if you were a guy, and this was the worst. The background singing SCREECHING the refrain was too much.
6362. You Make Me Feel Brand New-Stylistics 1974
Again, just not my style. (No pun intended) One of a handful of artists my dad likes that I do not.
6361. Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe-Barry White 1974
Like I said on the Opinion post, I just don't understand the draw. It's like he just talks through the songs in his deep voice. My dad likes this one a lot though.
6360. Be Near Me-ABC 1985
ABC wasn't horrible, but this was a bit fruity for me. Actually, I could have ranked this higher, but not much.
6359. My Boy Flat Top Boyd Bennett & His Rockets 1955
First heard this on my dad's jukebox. Not awful, but a bit too pre-rock, like something from the 40's. It's upbeat, but sounds like it would make more sense next to Rag Mop than Jailhouse Rock.
6358. Oh Girl!-Chi-Lites 1972
Yeesh. Just plain heard it too much in my life. Also see my Stylistics comments.
6357. Separate Lives-Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin 1985
This is what hurt Phil Collins, IMO. Stuff like this and covering Groovy Kind of Love, slowed down. (Although I recently read this is one of Martina & her husband's songs! ) Too bland.
6356. Baby, Come to Me-Patti Austin with James Ingram 1982/83
Something you hear on a bad lite station. I do have distinct memories of hearing this when it was new though. Not necessarily good ones though.
6355. (If Loving You is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right-Luther Ingram 1972
Any relation to artist in 6492? Too slow, too boring.
6354. Hey There Lonely Girl-Eddie Holman 1969/70
MAKE IT STOP! That high pitched voice is just too much! Through the whole song too! Why other artists copied this style is beyond me.
6353. Have You Seen Her-Chi-Lites 1971
The only thing worse was Hammer covering this. Just got tired of this from oldies radio.
6352. Release Me (And Let Me Love Again)-Englebert Humperdinck 1967
How did this get on the radio in 1967? Pure syrup schlock.
6351. Looking For Clues-Robert Palmer 1980
RIP Robert, but I never liked this song. And the video annoyed me, with him dancing around in his socks on giant blocks.
6350. Me and Mrs. Jones-Billy Paul 1972
Yet another early 70's soul songs I just do not like. Too much oldie play, one of the staples of "dusty" stations as well.
6349. On Broadway-George Benson 1978
Wasn't that big on the original, but I just didn't care for this remake. Too much play, too much play now. The opening just annoys me.
6348. Holy Mother-Eric Clapton 1987
Here is a drawback of knowing so much by an artist-you end up with some clunkers. Such is the case here. I love the album this song is from, August, but this song is too slow and boring. So Clapton's average on my charts is bad because of it.
6347. Gold-Spandau Ballet 1983
By naming your group Spandau Ballet, you can almost assure you are NOT going to have a large (straight) male following. And I have seen group pictures of them that weren't helping matters any. This sounded like it belonged in a Broadway production or something.
6346. Tema Dei Monkees-Monkees 1966/82
Same thing as with Clapton. I know SO much with the Monkees, that stuff like this brings the average down. Basically, this is the theme song, done in Italian. It's from 66, but not available on LP til 82. I was never big on the regular version, thus the ranking on this one.
So there is the first list! Please leave your comments!
