Business has picked up lately! Especially at night! Hope everyone's lives are going well.
5920. Duke of Earl-Gene Chandler 1962
Not really a novelty song like Witch Doctor or Ally Oop, but sort of "gimmicky". Typical oldie, although airplay has dropped. Just thought of something-in Grease II, Goose is singing this song-even though it's not 1962 yet!
5919. You'll See-Madonna 1995
This was a new song as a part of a ballads collection she put out that year. Not much different from her other ballads.
5918. Uptown Girl-Billy Joel 1983
I give him credit for tipping his hat to Frankie Valli and other early legends, but I got sick of this song.
5917. Real Live Woman-Trisha Yearwood 2000 (Previous ranking 4852)
Most of the Trisha stuff I like is on her greatest hits collection. This wasn't bad, just not up to those earlier hits.
5916. Book of Love-Monotones 1958
If you still know a station that plays Duke of Earl, chances are, they are playing this one too.
5915. You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This-Toby Keith 1999 (New addition)
Tough, cocky Toby can do soft songs too. Used to see this on CMT all the time.
5914. Bridge of Sighs-Robin Trower 1974
His most well known song. He had no hit singles, but this is his signature tune, creeping into several 70's hard rock compilations.
5913. 26 Miles (Santa Cantalina)-Four Preps 1958
Now this probably wouldn't even be played along with Book of Love and Duke of Earl! The only place I ever heard it was my dad's juke box. Bet H2 likes it.
5912. Could I Have This Dance-Anne Murray 1980
One of many Anne songs that are pleasant, nothing outstanding. Somehow she was ranked ahead of Martina on the Top 40 Women of Country on CMT!
5911. I'm on Fire-Bruce Springsteen 1985
I remember this getting monster classic rock play, while harder rock songs would be ignored. Remember the video with the girl you never really see?
5910. Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On-Jerry Lee Lewis 1957
Wow, lots of 50's-early 60's stuff in this section! One more after this. Their placement pretty much shows how I feel about that time period-I certainly don't hate it, it is just nothing outstanding to me overall.
5909. Sweet Little Sixteen-Chuck Berry 1958
The song that launched 1000 Beach Boys songs! Well, one anyway.
5908. Girls Just Want to Have Fun-Cyndi Lauper 1983/84
This was so huge, so beat out Madonna for Best New Female that year. Who's laughing now?
5907. I'm in You-Peter Frampton 1977 (New addition)
I NEVER heard this song back then. When I got his greatest hits, I was looking forward to hearing this. What a disappointment.
5906. Fooled Again (I Don't Like it)-Tom Petty 1977
That first disc is really good, probably his best overall.
5905. Livin' on a Prayer-Bon Jovi 1986/87
I got SO sick of the three singles from this album. They are my least faves on there.
5904. Jesus He Knows Me-Genesis 1992
They were pretty much done at this point, making a cute mockery of TV evangalists.
5903. Endless Love-Diana Ross & Lionel Richie 1981
How many 1000's of people we to this in the 80's?
5902. Angry All the Time-Tim McGraw 2001 (New additon)
I guess Faithy baby sings harmony on this one. But the BEST it was ever done was at Martina's PPV special when he showed up and SHE sang harmony on it!
5901. What is Love?-Howard Jones 1984
Again, so much of his stuff sounds the same. Let me have it, Railyn!!
Go to it!
