Happy T day everyone! I hope someone reads this today! LOL! It's Good to Be King-Tom Petty 1995 This always seemed like a "dark" Petty album. But I consider it the last really good stuff from him. Come on in-Monkees 1968/90 Another originally unreleased Peter sung that ended up on Links I. Not as bad as others, but again, nothing spectacular. Sad But True-Metallica 1992 These Black Album cuts were everywhere on rock radio back then! Surf City-Jan & Dean 1963 Another for the "typical oldie" list. Cracklin' Rosie-Neil Diamond 1970 This wasn't too bad. Just not too big on Neil. Short Shorts-Royal Teens 1958 Featuring a very young Al Kooper. One you don't hear too much these days. Both Sides Now-Judy Collins 1968 Here's one you never really here. I mean, these days, it wouldn't even really fit into Lite station formats! Thriller-Michael Jackson 1984 Geez, isn't this guy done on my list yet?? Will You Love Me Tomorrow-Shirelles 1960/61 An oft-covered song, even by Joe Walsh as late as 92! Through the Years-Kenny Rogers 1981/82 A good song to make a video of someone's life to. Pick Up the Pieces-Average White Band 1974/75 Funky little instrumental. Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms 1993 The lighter side of rock in the early 90's. I thought I'd like this stuff better than grunge but I ended up changing my mind. I Thank the Lord For the Night Time-Neil Diamond 1967 Is it me or does it seem like Michael and Neil are never ending on this list?? Hot Rod Hearts-Robbie Dupree 1980 Minor hit that was typical of the sound at the time (Rupert Holmes, Paul Davis, Christopher Cross, etc). I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)-Meat Loaf 1993 This got old REAL fast. I Only Have Eyes For You-Flamingos 1959/60 Nice little pre-rock sounding song. Sugar Walls-Sheena Easton 1984/85 Sheena gets NASTY!! Blame the Prince influence. Not as good as the video for The Lover in Me though, were she is working out in heels! Into the Great Wide Open-Tom Petty 1991 Although I have this disc with tons of hits, I didn't like very many. Full Moon Fever was better. Superfreak-Rick James 1981 The song that gave Hammer a career. This isn't too bad though. Octopus' Garden-Beatles 1969 Ringo's stuff was mostly novetly songs, this one being no exception. Go to it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!
It's Good to Be King-Tom Petty 1995 I don't know this one, but if it's anything like his older work, I think I'd like it.
Come on in-Monkees 1968/90 Not familiar with this one.
Sad But True-Metallica 1992 I've never really cared for their music.
Surf City-Jan & Dean 1963 Classic surfing song - a little overplayed at times, though.
Cracklin' Rosie-Neil Diamond 1970 Love this! I remember hearing a lot of his songs when I was very young.
Short Shorts-Royal Teens 1958 Reminds me of the old Nair commercials. Not bad, but not great.
Both Sides Now-Judy Collins 1968 Judy has such a beautiful voice. For years I thought this was a 70s hit.
Thriller-Michael Jackson 1984 I've always loved this. I had an alternate mix of this that I taped off the radio back in 1984.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow-Shirelles 1960/61 My favorite of theirs.
Through the Years-Kenny Rogers 1981/82 I don't hear this much, but it's a really nice song.
Pick Up the Pieces-Average White Band 1974/75 Love this! They had quite a few good songs, but this was the best, I think.
Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms 1993 I like some of their mid-90s work, but I don't think I know this.
I Thank the Lord For the Night Time-Neil Diamond 1967 My parents had the 45 - remember hearing this lots when I was about 3 or 4 years old.
Hot Rod Hearts-Robbie Dupree 1980 Great "lost" 80s classic. I did a post about this on YL once.
I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)-Meat Loaf 1993 I've never liked this at all.
I Only Have Eyes For You-Flamingos 1959/60 One of my favorites from the 50s. It has such a haunting, yet soothing quality to it.
Sugar Walls-Sheena Easton 1984/85 One of my lesser faves of Sheena's. This got almost no airplay here when it was current.
Into the Great Wide Open-Tom Petty 1991 Not familiar.
Superfreak-Rick James 1981 Loved this back in the day - very catchy.
Octopus' Garden-Beatles 1969 Cute, but not one of the better songs on Abbey Road.

Tom Petty - This is among my favorite albums from Tom - good stuff. Monkees - Not familiar Metallica- Never got into them that much. Jan and Dean - My cousins and I LOVED this when we were little - it's still a big fave. Neil Diamond - My uncle loved this! back then - I still really like it. The Royal Teens - Always kind of liked it. Judy Collins - I just saw her sing this a few months ago on the PBS folk music special. Michael Jackson - I liked the video better than the song although it was very cool that Vincent Price was involved in the recording. The Shirelles - Joe Walsh! wow! - always a favorite oldie. Kenny Rogers - I've never heard it. Average White Band - I've loved this ever since '75 Gin Blossoms - Can't get enough! - love em Neil - LOL - another early tune that's quite good. Robbie Dupree - It is kind of a lost 80's classic - I was suprised to find both this and Steal Away on the net. Meatloaf - I liked his 70's stuff alot - so I thought I would like this, but I was dissapointed. The Flamingos - A great little tune. Sheena Easton - I remember seeing the video more than hearing the tune on the radio. I don't remember seeing the video for The Lover in me - sounds interesting though Tom Petty - Love it! Rick James - Yeah it was kind of catchy The Beatles - Love it - great "underwater" background vocals.

I've never heard most of these songs, so I'll mention the few that I do know.
Thriller - One of his best. Love the video, although it used to scare the crap out of me.
I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Can we say ANNOYING?
I Only Have Eyes For You - Pretty song.
Superfreak - I always like this one. It's cool at parties and dances.

It's Good to Be King-Tom Petty 1995 Good album, good song Come on in-Monkees 1968/90 Don't know it...of course Sad But True-Metallica 1992 Loved this one! Fave track from the Black album Surf City-Jan & Dean 1963 Not my style at all. Their tunes all sound the same and blend together. Cracklin' Rosie-Neil Diamond 1970 Good one. Great melody. Short Shorts-Royal Teens 1958 ? Both Sides Now-Judy Collins 1968 I've never heard a version of this I didn't like. I especially love Joni Mitchell's most recent recording of it from her 2000 album. It's magical. Thriller-Michael Jackson 1984 I have to admit when this came out I liked it. Will You Love Me Tomorrow-Shirelles 1960/61 Can I just say that I love the Joe Walsh version? Through the Years-Kenny Rogers 1981/82 I love the mushy Kenny stuff Pick Up the Pieces-Average White Band 1974/75 Their signature tune Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms 1993 I'm very hot and cold on this band. This song's okay. I Thank the Lord For the Night Time-Neil Diamond 1967 This one's not bad. Hot Rod Hearts-Robbie Dupree 1980 I have not heard this one in like 20 years. I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)-Meat Loaf 1993 Sooooo over the top. The video was ridiculous. I Only Have Eyes For You-Flamingos 1959/60 Very nice Sugar Walls-Sheena Easton 1984/85 I love Sheena's "NASTY" period. Into the Great Wide Open-Tom Petty 1991 I'm over this one. Superfreak-Rick James 1981 Love it! Octopus' Garden-Beatles 1969 Okay I guess.

Will You Love Me Tomorrow--Good tune. Through the Years--Love this. One of my favorite songs by Kenny Rogers. Pick Up the Pieces--It's ok. Never was a big fan. Until I Fall Away--Love it. Really liked the Gin Blossoms. Hey, do you know what a "gin blossom" is? I Thank the Lord for the Night Time--My mom's a big Neil fan, and she always told me this was her favorite by him. Hot Rod Hearts--Pretty good. Had the 45. I Would Do Anything for Love--Sheesh! Overwrought. Torture to sit through. I Only Have Eyes for You--Not bad. Good harmonies. Good to Be King is on the mellow side of Petty. What did that alternate mix sound like-how did it differ? Surprised you don't know this other Petty hit. I'll have to check 'Good to Be King' out sometime! I actually may have heard 'Into the Great Wipe Open' - the classic rock stations here play a lot of his songs. The 'Thriller' mix was kinda strange - they put all the verses together one right after the other at the beginning, and then the Vincent Price part, and then all the choruses together at the end. It was interesting, but didn't flow nearly as well as the original.

It's Good to Be King-Tom Petty 1995 Still had good songs then, I associate this with the Lion King, oddly enough.
Come on in-Monkees 1968/90 Nothing spectacular? OK...
Sad But True-Metallica 1992 I don't remember this too much, like some others off the Black album.
Surf City-Jan & Dean 1963 Always great! Would like to own an extended ending version I heard on the radio somewhere...
Cracklin' Rosie-Neil Diamond 1970 A big family fave! Very sprightly.
Short Shorts-Royal Teens 1958 Also featured a pre-Four Seasons Bob Gaudio. Great novelty, a little trite.
Both Sides Now-Judy Collins 1968 Dare I say, Judy's almost...PSYCHEDELIC here! (Maybe that keyboard makes me think so, anyway...). Wonderful, almost operatic voice. I've really grown into her music, especially this one.
Thriller-Michael Jackson 1984 Great, but I STILL prefer much of the rest of the album. WAY too overplayed back in early 1984, especially the long version.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow-Shirelles 1960/61 Forever classic fave. Novices always add that "still" to the title.
Through the Years-Kenny Rogers 1981/82 Never a huge fave, especially when American Top 40 used this LOTS in Dedications from 1982-1987. But now that I have the box set, I can live with this in small doses.
Pick Up the Pieces-Average White Band 1974/75 FOREVER in my top 200. 70's music hardly ever got any better. But I never liked the edit quite as much.
Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms 1993 Man, do I love the "New Miserable Experience" CD. My least fave of the 4 radio tunes from it, and that IS saying something. Curiously, the band name always reminded me of cotton, but I would more likely wager it's a drinking reference.
I Thank the Lord For the Night Time-Neil Diamond 1967 Call me a fussy WHINO, but I HATE it when people drop the "I" from the title. Great tune.
Hot Rod Hearts-Robbie Dupree 1980 The great follow-up to the SENSATIONAL "Steal away". As I've grown older, this genre of music that I liked then is only becoming my strongest like of today. Man, do I just LOVE those soft rock hits of the time.
I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)-Meat Loaf 1993 You said it. One artist who should have NOT gone the comeback route. Unfortunately, this is in my CRAZY top 1000, but with my next list being more weighted on my personal likes, expect this to DIVE.
I Only Have Eyes For You-Flamingos 1959/60 I love this always. Hope this does well in my future doo-wop tourney.
Sugar Walls-Sheena Easton 1984/85 Back then, top 40 had axed this as too "X rated". Nothing compared to the crap and what have you of today. Always like this, more than "Strut", and on a goodly number of 80's compilations I own.
Into the Great Wide Open-Tom Petty 1991 To quote Marty's line from "Back to the Future 2"...the future. That's it, just...the future. One of my least faves of Petty, rather Wilburys sounding too slow.
Superfreak-Rick James 1981 LOVED this from Day 1.
Octopus' Garden-Beatles 1969 Always a winner, one of the first Fab 4 tunes I knew, back in kindergarten, 1975.

Happy T-day?? Today is December 2. Thanksgiving was last week. (oop...thats because I'm answering this 5 days late. - D'oh!)
It's Good to Be King-Tom Petty 1995 Don't know it
Come on in-Monkees 1968/90 Don't know it
Sad But True-Metallica 1992 Don't know this either. Maybe I'll go download it for free and then try to sell pirated copies. Or maybe I won't, seeing I don't like Metallica.
Surf City-Jan & Dean 1963 Jan and Dean - the major pretenders to the Beach Boys' throne. They had a very good early '60s sound, but they never grew from there the way the Beach Boys did. Surf City is a good song and brings back several good memories.
Cracklin' Rosie-Neil Diamond 1970 This had just enough of the folk-rock Neil element to it to make it good. (But club Neil was beginning to sneak in)
Short Shorts-Royal Teens 1958 I had forgotten the Al Kooper connection. Cute novelty song with very good 50s-style instrumental backup. Love the New England accents: "Who wears shawt shawts?"
Both Sides Now-Judy Collins 1968 This is really a very good song. Maybe Judy at her best. Unfortunately, it reminds me of an old girlfriend with whom I parted on less than amicable terms.
Thriller-Michael Jackson 1984 Is this the video where he dangles the baby from the balcony, or the one where he has sex with 12-year old boys?
Will You Love Me Tomorrow-Shirelles 1960/61 The best song ever done by the first if the super girl groups of the '60s. Love the violins.
Through the Years-Kenny Rogers 1981/82 WAAAY too sappy.
Pick Up the Pieces-Average White Band 1974/75 Eh. Can take or leave it.
Until I Fall Away-Gin Blossoms 1993 Don't know it
I Thank the Lord For the Night Time-Neil Diamond 1967 Invoking H2's rule #2. Folk-Rock Neil = good.
Hot Rod Hearts-Robbie Dupree 1980 So-so.
I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)-Meat Loaf 1993 Good song, but could not hold a candle to tracks from his first album.
I Only Have Eyes For You-Flamingos 1959/60 Great doo-wop sound. Back in the day, a radio station held a contest, asking people to guess what the backup singers were saying. (Doo-wop-sha-bop)
Sugar Walls-Sheena Easton 1984/85 Not bad.
Into the Great Wide Open-Tom Petty 1991 Don't know it.
Superfreak-Rick James 1981 Didn't really care for this.
Octopus' Garden-Beatles 1969 A fine track from an album that had no bad tracks.
