The Chicago Tribune printed up some interesting info in this Sunday's paper in regards to holiday music.
One of the facts was the most performed holiday songs, according to the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).
Here it is:
1. The Christmas Song 2. White Christmas 3. Santa Claus is Comin' to Town 4. Winterwonderland 5. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas 6. Sleigh Ride 7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 8. Little Drummer Boy 9. I'll Be Home For Christmas 10. Silver Bells 11. Jingle Bell Rock 12. Blue Christmas 13. Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! 14. Feliz Navidad 15. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree 16. Frosty the Snowman 17. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus 18. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year 19. A Holly Jolly Christmas 20. Here Comes Santa Claus 21. Carol of the Bells 22. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas 23. Chipmunk Song 24. Santa Baby 25. We Need a Little Christmas
Interesting list. Sorta surprised Christmas Song outranked White Christmas. Good to see the three rock era songs on the list. In a separate section, they listed those three songs as the only rock era ones that could be called "standards". I can understand that.
Just looking at Martina's CD here, and half the songs on her CD are on here. But look at the six that are NOT:
Do You Hear What I Hear O Come All Ye Faithful O Holy Night Away in a Manger What Child is This Silent Night
That really surprises me, ESPECIALLY O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night. Those are HUGE songs, I woulda figured more would have covered them. Especially more than songs like Feliz, Chipmunk and Santa Baby.
What do you think?

That's very suprising that The Christmas song outranks White Christmas. I thought for some reason that Feliz Navidad would be higher.
Away in The Manger - I would think that by now EVERYONE had done a version.
Great list:) :gifts:

Good list. I was really surprised O Holy Night wasn't on list. I realized it's only the top 25, but that song's been done by every one.

Interesting list! I thought 'Winter Wonderland' would have been tops over 'The Christmas Song', although I have heard quite a few versions of that one also. Like you and Woody, I'm surprised that songs like 'O Holy Night' and 'O Come All Ye Faithful' aren't on the list - I've definitely heard them more often than 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' or 'Santa Baby'.

I for one am not surprised at all that the Christmas Song has been recorded the most. I can probably name at least 50 artists that have recorded it and I know that Mel Torme has said that the royalties for that song have paid for all of his houses, cars, and boats! I am surprised that "I Saw Mommy.." is in the top 20 and "O Holy Night" isn't. What?! And I'm sorry, excuse my ignorance, what the hell is "The Chipmunk Song"?

Good list. I was really surprised O Holy Night wasn't on list. I realized it's only the top 25, but that song's been done by every one. A few years ago, I would have disagreed, but I do hear more versions these days than a few years back.

Yeah, Santa Baby REALLY surprised me. I know the original by Eartha Kitt, Madonna and Mindy McCready's versions. That's it.
