Well, it's a little of both. I have been getting more and more interested in this type of music over the past few years. I remember we talked about Manassas back on YL before it shut down, and my sister USED to have the double album, but I don't remember ever listening to it. And from you saying you liked Poco better than The Eagles, I figured I HAD to check them out.

UPDATE- I got the Manassas CD today! I listened to most of it before I came in to work, and I can tell I'm gonna be playing it a LOT! (Look for it on next years list, LOL!)

Well, to be honest, I really didn't BUY a lot this year, mostly I got used CD's off of half.com to "fill in the gaps" in my collection. I now have all 5 volumes of the out-of-print "Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The 80's" CD's, and all 20 volumes of "Didn't It Blow Your Mind: Soul Hits Of The 70's". A lot of stuff I listen to these days is music I've had for a long time, and just re-acquainted myself with. I downloaded a LOT of songs throughout the spring, but stopped when the RIAA started suing people (I got paranoid).

So from memory, here's a few of the CD's I listened to a lot over the past year.

The Best Of Flo & Eddie-I got into this around Christmas of last year. Of course, that was around the time I had my jaw surgery and teeth extractions, so it wasn't a very pleasant time in my life, but I still like these songs. A very hard to find CD, I ended up having to download every song to compile it. Some may say it's wrong, but as far as I'm concerned, if it's out of print, it's fair game!
Faves-Goodbye Surprise, Another Pop Stars Life, Just Another Town, Let Me Make Love To You, This Could Be The Day.

The Hollies-30th Anniversary Collection (especially Disc 3)-I bought this back in '97 but never really listened to the whole thing until last year. The second and third disc have some REAL gems on them. I listened to this a lot in January, then again in October. Faves-Open Up Your Eyes, Listen To Me, Wings, Sorry Suzanne

Triumph-Surveillance-I got this back in '87 when it first came out, and didn't think much of it at the time. In the spring when I was listening to a lot of hard rock, I gave this a listen. For two solid weeks, after I got done with finals, I played this a lot! Faves-Long Time Gone, Never Say Never, Headed For Nowhere, On And On

Rush-Retrospective II-One night last April, I borrowed this CD from my brother. I hadn't listened to Rush in over 15 years. Hearing these songs again renewed my interest in them, and I went out and bought all of their CD remasters! So for the last few weeks of the spring semester, I listened to almost nothing but Rush!

Rush-Presto-I list this because I had never heard it until I got it last year. By the time this album came out in '89, I was done with them. I loved this CD, but wasn't too crazy about the follow-up, "Roll The Bones". Faves-The Pass, Chain Lightning, War Paint

The Church-Preist=Aura-They were known for their '88 top-40 hit "Under The Milky Way". This album, though, was later, from '92. I bought it at the time for the song "Ripple", but never really listened to the whole thing. I totally fell in love with most of the cuts on this CD and by mid-summer was hooked! How can you categorize them? Goth-folk, perhaps......

XTC-compilation of songs from 1979-1985. I burned a CD of the best cuts on "Drums and Wires", "Black Sea", "English Settlement", "Mummer" and "The Big Express", and listened to it a lot during the summer.

Eternity's Children-One of three CD's I picked up on my vacation in late August. This one got the most play on my CD player into September. This group should have been bigger in '68!

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons-Motown Superstars Series-I really got into these guys in October, and had been curious for years about their early 70's work on MoWest. So I tracked down a copy of this CD, and couldn't believe how good it was! Hard to believe that "The Night" was a top 10 hit in England, three years after it's release! I'm still looking for a vinyl copy of the "Chameleon" album.

5th Dimension-Definitive Collection (Disc 2)-This is another one I had bought years ago, but up until recently had only really played the first disc. A few weeks ago I gave disc 2 a spin and have been listening to it constantly and getting more and more interested in their 70's albums (hence my review of "Portrait" last week). A lot of great music to discover!

Melissa Etheridge--Breakdown--This is an album of Melissa's that I never listened to very much in the past, but a few months ago, I dug it out of my collection, put it in the car, and started listening to it a lot. There are a couple of songs on it that I really love, and enjoy hearing over and over again. They are Enough of Me, and Stronger than Me.

Melissa Etheridge--Skin--Melissa released this album a couple of years ago, and it's another one that I never gave much thought to, mainly because her other CD's were always in my player. LOL! But I decided to give this one more of a try, and found I liked a lot of the songs on it. "Please Forgive Me" is the standout on this one, imo. (I just realized that every song I mentioned so far ends with the word "me". LOL!)

Holy Road: Freedom Songs--Lizzie West--The story behind this: I had never heard of this person. One night, I was watching an episode of "Third Watch". At the end of the show, a very pretty song came on during the final scene, and I was enthralled by it. I just had to know what the song was, and who sang it. So I did a "google" search, and found out the name of the song was "Prayer", and it was by Lizzie West. So, I looked it up on Ebay, found a copy and bought it. I've listened to the whole cd quite a few times, and it's great. Kinda folky, country, bluesy type music along the lines of Emmylou Harris or Lucinda Williams. Good stuff!

Foo Fighters--Foo Fighters--I love this CD, and always find myself coming back to it after not listening to it for awhile. I was big into it again quite a bit this past summer. I'm a big Dave Grohl fan.

The Best of Suzi Quatro--Adam, I have you to thank for getting me interested in Suzi again. After reading your "Artist Opinion" post mentioning her, I realized that I liked her music a lot back in the day. That started me on a Quatro kick, and I bought this CD off of trusty ol' Ebay. I love it! The songs bring back a lot of memories of my childhood. My only complaint: It doesn't have "Rock Hard" on it, which is my favorite by her. Gotta find a cd with that song on it someday.

The Argent Anthology--I picked this up at a garage sale awhile back, even though I wasn't really familiar with Argent's music. I brought this cd home, gave it a listen, enjoyed it, and it's been in my CD player at some point or another many times during this past year.

The Road Home--Heart--This is a live cd of acoustic performances of some of Heart's hits. (I wonder if I could use the word "of" a few more times. LOL!) Anyway, I love the quiet, intimate feel of this cd, and am drawn back to it again and again. I love Ann Wilson's voice, and this CD showcases it very well.

Cyndi Lauper--Twelve Deadly Cyns--Cyndi is one of my favorite singers, and this cd always finds its way into a cd player somewhere--either in my house or my car. I like it a lot.

Pat Benatar--Go--Pat's newest release is very good. I'm always up for anything Pat does, so I made sure to pick this CD up whenever it came out a few months ago. The songs are quite enjoyable. I've had a great time getting to know them.

The Rose Soundtrack--My favorite Bette Midler movie. I caught it again on one of the movie channels awhile back, and it made me want to listen to the CD again, and I have, quite a few times. There are a lot of memories associated with the movie, and with these songs, for me, and I really like going back to that time occasionally, to remember those times. A bit of nostalgia for me, I suppose.

So that's it. Fascinating, wasn't it? LOL!

Three Dog Night - Story - 1965 - 1975 - I finally got around to getting Cory Chuck and Danny on CD I enjoy this CD so much. Their version of I Can Hear You Calling is awesome.



Beatles - Yellow Submarine Songtrack - The fabs always spend alot of time in both my player and on my turntable. How can you go wrong ? A fantastic selection of tunes and the remixed and remastered sound can't be beat.


Fountains of Wayne - Utopia Parkway - After hearing Stacey's Mom and Bright Future in Sales from the new album and loving both I went back and fell in love with this CD all over again. Boo! to Atlantic for dropping the guys.



The Carpet Frogs - Frog Curry - Great Canadian power pop - this is from '94 but I found it used earlier this year at one of our local record shops for $6 - it really made my day!

Well written originals mixed with well chosen covers like Dear Prudence and Shakin' all Over. I found out they 've just released a new CD - woo hoo!



Hey Look What I Found! - Volume 10 - Ok maybe this doesn't count since this a collection I made myself but one of the reason it spend so much time in my player is Martina McBride - from your recommendations Adam it contains 7 of her tunes


The Thorns - The Thorns -My brother told me about this album. Very reminiscent of C S and N and America in sound. One of my very favorite CD of this year. I hope there's a follow up.


Adriana Balic - For You - She's from Vancouver but currently lives in California. Her voice is incredible and her piano playing is superb (she's cute too).Her music is a nice mix of pop/ rock and jazz. Evert tune is a winner.


The Dave Clark Five - Glad All Over Again - Still can't believe their albums aren't yet available on disc what is Dave up too?? Great feel good tunes!! love that DC sound.


Jellyfish - Spilt Milk - the bands second and final album.I really got into this earlier this year. A fine record.


Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill - I've always been very fond of this album ever since I heard it around the house as a kid. When I read that their catalogue was being remastered back in '98 this is the one I decided to buy . I also want to get Countdown To Ecstasy.

Ken-I cannot BELIEVE I forgot to list Very Best of Badfinger!!!! That would be in my top 5!

I KNEW when I made my list that there was another CD I got within the past few years that I didn't get really into until this past year. That was it.
