The weekend again already!
Hey, I will have a Discussion topic over on the country board. Don't worry, it's not specific to Martina or modern country, it's a general discussion that all can take part in!
5157 California Dreamin’- Beach Boys 1986
Late in their career, the Beach Boys had taken to covering earlier hits (Peggy Sue, Come Go With Me, this one, Hot Fun in the Summertime). Interesting take with John Phillips and Roger McGuinn guesting on it. 5156 Show Biz Kids-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition)
Cool song I recently learned from the boxset. So much of their stuff could be played on classic radio these days.
5155 Love Will Find it’s Way to You-Reba McEntire 1987 (new addition)
This is a really good song, I believe my fave or her non-holiday hits.
5154 Sunshine of Your Love-Cream 1968
The riff the world knows, and John Bender even air guitared to in Breakfast Club. Just been burnt from classic rock radio. 5153 Long Tall Sally-Elvis 1956 (previous ranking 3999)
Another case of Elvis bringing "black" music to the white masses. Good take on it.
5152 Lovin’ You is Easy-Journey 1979
There is actually a promo clip for this song. Decent, one of the better album cuts from Evolution. 5151 Let’s Get Rocked-Def Leppard 1992
At the time I thought this song was cool, so cool I bought a shirt at the concert with a big face of the computer generated character from the weekend. I since have realized how DORKY the song is. 5150 Hello Mary Lou-Ricky Nelson 1961
My boss blasted him for being too teenage idol-like. Stuff like this is closer to Rockabilly IMO.
5149 Lay Your Hands on Me-Thompson Twins 1985 One of their better singles, but far from their best.
5148 Reason to Believe-Rod Stewart 1971
First couple times I heard this on classic rock radio, I didn't understand why they were playing it. I still don't love it, but it is a classic. A world famous B side. 5147 Whip it-Devo 1980
A song about, um.....you know. I may do a list about that someday on here. 5146 Die Hard the Hunter-Def Leppard 1983
Pyromania was one of my earliest cassettes. Bought it off a kid I knew for $4. I could probably get it for a quarter now. Decent album track. 5145 Pearl of the Quarter-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition)
God, I learned so many album tracks so quickly, I have trouble remembering how some go! LOL!
5144 From a Jack to a King-Elvis 1969 (new addition)
First heard this on an Elvis country collection CD on TV. Cool tune. Yes, the Memphis Sessions.
5143 Everybody Loves a Clown-Gary Lewis & the Playboys 1965
Gary himself was a bit of a clown (well, look who his dad was). A sort of American Freddie & the Dreamers, but better.
5142 Baby it's You-Shirelles 1961/62
The original, but my least fave of the 3 well known versions. 5141 Cherish-Association 1966
Another song with 3 versions-but 3 different songs! Just tired of this. 5140 Missing You-Diana Ross 1984/85
Yeesh, how did this get ranked so high?
5139 Ramblin' Man-Allman Brothers 1973
I always made fun of this for being too hillbilly. Funny know how I point to this type of music being an influence on modern country that I like. 5138 Like a Rock-Bob Seger 1986
The song wasn't great to begin with, then Chevy just killed it.
Go for it!

5157 California Dreamin’- Beach Boys 1986 Very well done cover of this classic. I'd love to see the video for this.
5156 Show Biz Kids-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition) Classic Steely Dan. It's a shame that many of their songs aren't getting radio play.
5155 Love Will Find it’s Way to You-Reba McEntire 1987 (new addition) I don't think I know this.
5154 Sunshine of Your Love-Cream 1968 Great rock classic, one of their best. This always reminds me of an early Wonder Years episode.
5153 Long Tall Sally-Elvis 1956 (previous ranking 3999) Not the best version I've heard of this, but good.
5152 Lovin’ You is Easy-Journey 1979 I have Evolution on cassette - need to get it out and have a listen.
5151 Let’s Get Rocked-Def Leppard 1992 Not familiar, but in general I'm not crazy about their work from this period.
5150 Hello Mary Lou-Ricky Nelson 1961 Good one from him that doesn't get nearly as much play as 'Garden Party' and 'Travelin' Man'.
5149 Lay Your Hands on Me-Thompson Twins 1985 I've heard two versions of this, and one is much better than the other.
5148 Reason to Believe-Rod Stewart 1971 I didn't know this until a few years ago. Okay, but I prefer the A side.
5147 Whip it-Devo 1980 Fun and catchy, very 80s.
5146 Die Hard the Hunter-Def Leppard 1983 Haven't heard this in ages. Great album!
5145 Pearl of the Quarter-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition) Another great Steely classic.
5144 From a Jack to a King-Elvis 1969 (new addition) I've never heard his version.
5143 Everybody Loves a Clown-Gary Lewis & the Playboys 1965 Very nice - this and 'Count Me In' are my favorites.
5142 Baby it's You-Shirelles 1961/62 Okay to hear occasionally.
5141 Cherish-Association 1966 Beautiful, timeless melody and lyrics.
5140 Missing You-Diana Ross 1984/85 I was lukewarm to this back then, but like it more now that it isn't so overplayed.
5139 Ramblin' Man-Allman Brothers 1973 Great tune, one I've known since I was very little.
5138 Like a Rock-Bob Seger 1986 I like Bob's music, but this never appealed to me much, and I got so tired of hearing it in the commercials.

California Dreamin' - I've never heard the studio version of this song, but when I saw the Beach Boys in concert three years ago, they did a great job on this song.
Show Biz Kids - Great underplayed Steely Dan song.
Love Will Find It's Way To You - Don't know it
Sunshine of Your Love - A great song, classic 60s, from one of the all-time great groups.
Long Tall Sally - Hasn't everyone done this song. Good version.
Lovin' You is Easy - Good song
Let's Get Rocked - I picked up Def Leppard's Vault CD at the used CD placed a couple days ago. That's when I first heard this song. Not their best, but not bad.
Hello Mary Lou - One of Ricky's best
Lay Your Hands on Me - Don't know it
Reason to Believe - Great version.
Whip It - Never was a Devo fan.
Die Hard the Hunter - Good song
Pearl of the Quarter - Not familiar with this song.
From a Jack to King - Don't know Elvis' version of this song.
Everybody Loves a Clown - Average mid-60s song.
Baby It's You - Not my favorite version nor one of my favorites from the Shirelles
Cherish - In the 60s, this was a great song, now, it's not even my favorite from the Association.
Missing You - Stop liking Diana about the mid-70s
Ramblin' Man - Classic song from a great album
Like a Rock - I try to listen to this occasionally because it's a great song, but Chevy has kind of killed it.

5157 California Dreamin’ - Beach Boys
I'll bet they did this song justice, but next to the original and the Carpenters' cover this doesn't stand a chance.
5156 Show Biz Kids - Steely Dan
Not familiar with this.
5155 Love Will Find it’s Way to You - Reba McEntire
Huh. I wouldn't have guessed you liking this one so much. Naturally, I do, but it's not one I would put on a favorites list.
5154 Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
I don't remember this, even trying to think back to The Breakfast Club.
5153 Long Tall Sally - Elvis
Sounds pretty good.
5152 - 5149. Don't know these.
5148 Reason to Believe - Rod Stewart
I've probably heard this before, but I'm not a Stewart fan.
5147 Whip it - Devo
For what its about, this song is really catchy and sort of a guilty pleasure from the 80s. I always liked it. It's funny.
5146 - 5145. Don't ring a bell.
5144 From a Jack to a King - Elvis
I'd like to hear this sometime.
5143 Everybody Loves a Clown - Gary Lewis & the Playboys
Who was his dad?
5142 - 5140. Don't know these.
5139 Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers
Great guitar on this song.
5138 Like a Rock - Bob Seger
I agree. So sick of it by now.

5157 California Dreamin’- Beach Boys 1986 Yeah, they did do a lot of covers, but that's what happens when there's no Brian or Dennis in the group. All in all, I thought they did a good job on this, but mostly because Carl sings on it. General rule of thumb about the Beach Boys: The more power Mike Love has, the crappier the output...
5154 Sunshine of Your Love-Cream 1968 My old band did this at a rehearsal once, and at the end we went into this INSANE 10-minute jam that totally SMOKED!! Totally spontaneous, and a shame that nobody was rolling tape!
5151 Let’s Get Rocked-Def Leppard 1992 I knew this song was dorky THEN! After Hysteria, I lost interest in them.
5150 Hello Mary Lou-Ricky Nelson 1961 Know the title..
5149 Lay Your Hands on Me-Thompson Twins 1985 Great one! I have the video somewhere on tape. Used to watch it over and over in '86. I always thought that Allannah's percussion added SO much to their sound!
5148 Reason to Believe-Rod Stewart 1971 Never thought much of it, but it's not 80's-90's Rod, so it's probably good.
5147 Whip it-Devo 1980 Sick of it... Give me "Girl U Want" or "Freedom Of Choice"
5146 Die Hard the Hunter-Def Leppard 1983 One of my lesser favesfrom Pyromania
5143 Everybody Loves a Clown-Gary Lewis & the Playboys 1965 Eh... I'm not that big on Gary Lewis.. They were like the American counterpart to Herman's Hermits..
5142 Baby it's You-Shirelles 1961/62 Many may disagree, but I always thought the Shirelles were not very good singers, which is why I usually like cover versions of their songs better than the originals.
5141 Cherish-Association 1966 Love the harmonies on this.
5140 Missing You-Diana Ross 1984/85 Heartfelt tribute, but I didn't care much for it..
5139 Ramblin' Man-Allman Brothers 1973 I'm more into their AOR stuff than their hit singles.
5138 Like a Rock-Bob Seger 1986 I've warmed up on Bob Seger in the past year or so... STILL don't like "Old Time Rock 'n Roll", but this is OK.

But Al sang the "All the leaves are brown" part, no? 5143. You give them more credit than me-I compared them to Freddie & the Dreamers. 5139. So do I as you will see!

5157. But Al sang the "All the leaves are brown" part, no? Yes, and Carl comes in with the "Stopped into a church" part.

5143 - Everybody's Loves a Clown - Yup like this very much.
5142 - Baby's It's You - Really enjoy it.
5141 - Cherish - Really got into the Association's music when I was in Grade 11 - at the time I bought a couple of reissue 45's and this was ome of them.
5140 - Missing You - Never heard it.
5139 - Ramblin' Man - Yes I can also hear the influence in quite a bit of the country stuff now. Awesome tune

Not as good today, but the songs will get better...
5157 California Dreamin’- Beach Boys 1986 Not a bad remake.
5156 Show Biz Kids-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition) "Life's wages". GREAT tune.
5155 Love Will Find it’s Way to You-Reba McEntire 1987 (new addition) No thanks.
5154 Sunshine of Your Love-Cream 1968 Maybe the best one on here. My, was the 45 version a hatchet job (heard on Volume 8 of Rhino's "British Invasion" series).
5153 Long Tall Sally-Elvis 1956 (previous ranking 3999) Good version.
5152 Lovin’ You is Easy-Journey 1979 It's good.
5151 Let’s Get Rocked-Def Leppard 1992 LOVED it when current. I don't think a whole lot about it today.
5150 Hello Mary Lou-Ricky Nelson 1961 Funny, this is at least one of his ten I hear the most often. I NEVER seem to hear "Just a little too much", "A wonder like you", and especially "For you". Good tune anyway.
5149 Lay Your Hands on Me-Thompson Twins 1985 Loved it from Day 1, my forever fave of theirs. That guitar break is UNBEATABLE!
5148 Reason to Believe-Rod Stewart 1971 Forget there was an unplugged version. The original is GREAT.
5147 Whip it-Devo 1980 Another winner.
5146 Die Hard the Hunter-Def Leppard 1983 One of my lesser faves from Pyromania.
5145 Pearl of the Quarter-Steely Dan 1973 (new addition) Great song, nothing less from the Dan.
5144 From a Jack to a King-Elvis 1969 (new addition) Sounds good. Ned Miller's original is quite great.
5143 Everybody Loves a Clown-Gary Lewis & the Playboys 1965 I just LOVE their music. Enough said.
5142 Baby it's You-Shirelles 1961/62 Great one. Can't miss the tambourine shaking and the organ in the break.
5141 Cherish-Association 1966 Great. Wonderful.
5140 Missing You-Diana Ross 1984/85 I still DETEST this with a blood-red, white-hot passion.
5139 Ramblin' Man-Allman Brothers 1973 Yessa! Awesome, man! Maybe the 2nd best on here.
5138 Like a Rock-Bob Seger 1986 Just make it stop. I'll be amazed if Bob hasn't received millions of dollars in royalties from Chevy by this time. I've NEVER heard an original song used for SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long in TV ads--EVER.

Die Hard the Hunter--An ok song, but they had much better.
Pearl of the Quarter--No clue.

TOO country for me. 5143 Everybody Loves a Clown-Gary Lewis & the Playboys 1965 Not bad. You don't need to carry a tune to sing this. 5142 Baby it's You-Shirelles 1961/62 OK, but not my fave by them. 5141 Cherish-Association 1966 In '66 I liked this song the first 5,000 times they played it. And that was just one Tuesday. 5140 Missing You-Diana Ross 1984/85 Not bad, but I rally don't like much of Diana's solo stuff. -- But Nancy does, so I get to listen to it. 5139 Ramblin' Man-Allman Brothers 1973 Pretty good song 5138 Like a Rock-Bob Seger 1986 Yeah, I agree with all you guys. Whatever good there was in that song, was ruined by Chevy.
