For those of you that didn't see, I played catch up on these lists. I posted Wed & Thurs on Fri night, and did Friday's LATE last night.
So, onward!!
4837 Song For Richard and His Friends-Chicago 1971
Took me awhile to figure out that Richard was Tricky Dick. Who says Chicago was all fluff and didn't do political songs. Good album cut, not among their elite, however.
4836 I’ll Be Around-Spinners 1972
Their first biggie. Spinners should be in the Hall, especially when I see the other soul acts going in before them.
4835 Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw-Jimmy Buffett 1973
Well now that kind of talk is just out of line. Fun song.
4834 Long Long Time-Linda Ronstadt 1970
Didn't know this til the Greatest Hits. One of her earliest.
4833 Kodachrome-Paul Simon 1973
One I knew growing up but didn't know what it was or who it was until about 12 or so years ago.
4832 Looking For the Good Times-Monkees 1968
Davey singing in his Vegasy way. Actually, one of his better ones.
4831 Have a Drink on Me-AC/DC 1980
Popular album cut that was also the B side to You Shook Me All Night Long.
4830 Missing You-Jonathan Waite 1984
This was everywhere back then. Preferred Change by him.
4829 What Have You Done For Me Lately-Janet Jackson 1986
Eh. This should be ranked lower, really.
4828 Sunglasses at Night-Corey Hart 1984
Everyone loved this, but I liked his other 2 biggies better.
4827 Shape I'm in-Band 1970
Yet another case where I saw the song on a radio set list and sought it out. Nothing great.
4826 Shop Around-Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 1960/61
Ok, for the time, nothing I'd search out now.
4825 A Hard Day’s Night-Beatles 1964
This was what I still consider the Beatles "weak" period. But their weak period was better than most's great period.
4824 Let’s Dance-Chris Montez 1962
Some guy I knew thought this was the same as the David Bowie. Good tune.
4823 In a Gadda-Da-Vida-Iron Butterfly
1968/69
There was an episode of Wings where Lowell the mechanic is playing drums and says it was the drum solo from this song. Faye, the counter lady said it was mind numbling annoying. Lowell's response? "Alright, I finally nailed it!!"
4822 Goin' Out of My Head-Little Anthony & the Imperials 1964
This is actually a very good song. That year sortof surprises me as this was more doowop and the Invasion was already in swing at this point.
4821 Only in America-Jay & the Americans 1963
Jay had a real good voice. Cool song.
4820 Party-Paul McCartney 1999
Yet another cover from the Run Devil Run album, and an another Elvis one. Paul's is a bit more "cleaned up" sounding, but still an interesting take.
4819 Smokey Joe’s Café-Robins 1954
The Robins would shortly be known as the Coasters. But for this pre-Rock-n-Roll era tune, they were still the Robins. Neat little song.
4818 I Believe in Father Christmas-Greg Lake 1975
Shows up on every ELP compilation, but it is Greg solo. Very unique holiday song.
Have at it!
