Haven't seen much response on 210-201. Please check it out if you haven't yet. OK... here we go into the Top 200! 200. When – The Kalin Twins (1958, #5) I think that Dave may be the only person to recognize this one. Simple two-part harmony, a great sax interlude as well as counterpoint, and some vestiges of the ‘20s and ‘30s in the style. A hit out of left field back then; still love it today. 199. Bus Stop – The Hollies (1966, #5). This is simple light pop. This is probably one end of the Hollies’ musical style, with Long Cool Woman at the other end. It’s just such a happy song, and tells such a neat little story with a happy ending, that it’s quite refreshing. I’ve always loved it for that reason. - We'll see more of these guys later. 198. Love On A Two Way Street – The Moments (1970, #3) An extremely well orchestrated R&B ballad, by a group that had been around for quite a while and were well known in R&B circles. But this was their major sojourn into the land of the pop/rock charts. The lead singer (whose name escapes me) sounds like a cross between Smokey Robinson and Russell Tompkins, Jr. The piano introduction is awesome and the strings then pick it up and carry a great counter-melody throughout. Even though the lyrics are corny, it’s a great piece of music! 197. Angie Baby – Helen Reddy (1974, #1) This one is straight out of the twilight zone. A very strange story about a strange girl who lures a boy to her room and hides him in her radio. The fact that it’s so far out is a large part of its appeal to me, I think. I like Helen better when she’s singing than when she’s preaching. 196. We’re All Alone – Rita Coolidge (1977, #7) I have never been a big Rita Coolidge fan, but there is something in the way she does this song that just shoots it way up in my mind. Kinda makes me want to be all alone with Rita Coolidge – and that’s the effect she is trying to achieve - in general, not me in particular. Love the guitar in this one also. 195. Losing My Religion – REM (1991, #4) My son loved this song back then. In fact, he sang it at his Bar Mitzvah party. (Strange song to sing at a Bar Mitzvah event, no?? ) Anyway, for some reason instead of me getting tired of it, it grew and grew on me. Maybe it was the strange lyrics which always made me wonder what they were trying to say. Anyway…. for the memories, in my Top 250. 194. Suddenly – Billy Ocean (1985, #4) One of those sappy songs that just hit me the right way. Strange, because I don’t like anything else by him. 193. That’s The Way I Always Heard It Should Be – Carly Simon (1971, #10) This was the first song I ever heard by Carly, and it remains my favorite of all by her. Melancholy and depressing perhaps, but great lyrics and such a beautiful melody. 192. Fox On The Run – The Sweet (1976, #5) – I like just about all their hits, but this is the best. Love the sound effects, vocals, beat, and melody. I’ve also heard them do a harder rock, nearly punkish version of this, that I didn’t like nearly as much. 191. Woman In Love – Barbra Streisand (1980, #1) This one gets in not primarily for Barbra (sorry, Lora), but for the pen of Barry Gibb and the backup singing of the Bee Gees – But Barbra is no slouch here either. Beautiful song, great arrangement, fantastic vocals.

I really like the different selection of songs here. While I'm only familiar with one, I can really get a feel of the other ones and some sound like they'd be worth searching out for me. Of course, I'm sure you know which one I am familiar with...
Woman In Love - I've always loved the work that Barbra did with the Bee Gees and this is one of several good collaborations from the Guilty LP. It would be nice to hear her and Barry do something again.

200. When – The Kalin Twins (1958, #5) Love this since discovering it around '91. It's actually the clapping/snapping that gets me going on this!
199. Bus Stop – The Hollies (1966, #5). Great tune, great group. Glad it won Adam's Hollies tourney.
198. Love On A Two Way Street – The Moments (1970, #3) Love this a lot. So nice; essential early 70's soul.
197. Angie Baby – Helen Reddy (1974, #1) Maybe my fave of hers, wityh I am Woman. Great keyboards.
196. We’re All Alone – Rita Coolidge (1977, #7) Great tune; equally as great as Boz' original.
195. Losing My Religion – REM (1991, #4) This and "Shiny happy people" are my faves; both from the same album. Downhill ever since essentially.
194. Suddenly – Billy Ocean (1985, #4) I was looking forward to this one. Unlike most other mid 80's tunes, this one has REALLY grown on me. Nice ballad.
193. That’s The Way I Always Heard It Should Be – Carly Simon (1971, #10) Never liked this as much as later hits, from Anticipation to Jesse.
192. Fox On The Run – The Sweet (1976, #5) Much a fave of the Click, although it lost to Dancing in the Moonlight in my first 70's tourney. Great group to say the least.
191. Woman In Love – Barbra Streisand (1980, #1) Back in her "good", adventurous era when she tried disco, and then got hooked up with the head BeeGee. My 4 faves from her were all from 1979 till early '81--this being one of them.

200. When – The Kalin Twins (1958, #5) The title seems familiar, but I'm not sure I've heard the song.
199. Bus Stop – The Hollies (1966, #5) Superb Hollies tune, one of their best.
198. Love On A Two Way Street – The Moments (1970, #3) I actually heard Stacy Lattisaw's cover before this one. Very nice melody.
197. Angie Baby – Helen Reddy (1974, #1) I've always liked this one from Helen. Sadly, her songs get almost no play on the oldies stations here.
196. We’re All Alone – Rita Coolidge (1977, #7) Another favorite from my childhood. Rita's voice is outstanding on this.
195. Losing My Religion – REM (1991, #4) I'm not really into REM, but this wasn't bad.
194. Suddenly – Billy Ocean (1985, #4) Not my favorite from him, but nicely done.
193. That’s The Way I Always Heard It Should Be – Carly Simon (1971, #10) I love the haunting quality of this song. Vocally, probably her best.
192. Fox On The Run – The Sweet (1976, #5) Crank this up!! Love it!!
191. Woman In Love – Barbra Streisand (1980, #1) This always takes me back to my junior high school days. A great period for her.

When - I've probably heard this and just don't it. For now, I'll just I can't remember it. Bus Stop - This has always been one of my favorites from the Hollies. They did so many fun songs in the 60s Love on a Two Way Street - Classic R&B, I've always liked this song. BTW the three members of the Moments were Al Goodman, Harry Ray, William Brown. Hopefully, this will jog your memory. Angie Baby - Goofy song, its ok We're All Alone - I heard Boz Scaggs version of this song first, but I like Rita's better. Great song Losing My Religon - don't know it Suddenly - Billy Ocean only did a couple of songs I liked, and this ain't one of them That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be - Great song. She was much more than You're So Vain & Mrs. James Taylor. Fox On the Run - Great song, and I love the sound effects in this song too. Woman In Love - I like practically nothing that Ms. Streisand does.

It shows a mutual respect for one anothers talents, and often produces a great product.

Curious as to how you discovered this in '91, Dave. Was it on a 50s compilation? Didn't think it got that much play on oldies stations. 197. Thanks for pointing that out about the keyboards. I agree, they add a lot to the song. 192. The Sweet may be more appreciated today than then.

It was played quite a bit up here since she is a local DC girl. 193. 'Haunting' is exactly the right word.

I'm sorry Ed, but I absolutely HATE this song! It's weird, my dad loves it too! Must be something about your age! Actually it surprises me you both like it. 194. PASS! 193. 200. When-" I think that Dave may be the only person to recognize this one." Ahem. Not only do I know this song but I now have it stuck in my head.
199. Bus Stop – The Hollies (1966, #5).My VERY favorite Hollies songs--and one of my fave rock/pop songs, period.
198. Love On A Two Way Street – The Moments (1970, #3)This is definiely one of my faves from the early 70s
197. Angie Baby – Helen Reddy (1974, #1) I was obsessd enough with the radio that my sister and her friends teased me a time or two by calling me "Angie". (LOL)
Anyway, to be honest this song (Still) kinda "creeps me out" a little...
196. We’re All Alone – Rita Coolidge (1977, #7) Pretty song
195. Losing My Religion – REM (1991, #4) I've only heard this once on some sort of VH-1 countdown or something. I have to agree it's certainly an ironic song to have at a Bar Mitzvah...
194. Suddenly – Billy Ocean (1985, #4) Don't know it
193. That’s The Way I Always Heard It Should Be – Carly Simon (1971, #10) I could not STAND this song when i first heard it! It still isn't one of my faves but I do appreciate it now (More so now than before that is)
192. Fox On The Run – The Sweet (1976, #5) –The Sweet is one of my kids' favorite groups. They are constatly playing their music around here.
Anyway, "Fox" is one of those songs I've liked ever since the first time I heard it....
191. Woman In Love – Barbra Streisand (1980, #1) Woman In Love - Barbra and The Bee Gees: Awesome combo!

My kid is gonna be a patent/intellectual property lawyer in two years. Then we're gonna sue your butt!! 199. I even like Black Dress. I just wish they didn't play it so damn much. 195. It's not an age thing, Adam. It's just that your dad and I share incredibly good taste in music. ;D

199. Bus Stop – The Hollies - CL-assique! Songs like Bus Stop and Fox on the Run seem to have close to unanimous approval around here.
