Ken's Mix Cassette - 1 / 30

This time, I thought I would dive into my collection of cassettes.This tape was made back in the Summer of 1984 over a period of about two weeks. Every song was recorded from the radio. The first six songs on "Side A" were done when I was staying at my cousins house for a week. I had my AIWA portable AM / FM cassette player with me (it was a great sounding unit). We were all hanging out in my cousin's room one evening and the radio was on and we were listening to the "Saturday Night Oldies Party" on CFMI 101.1 (Now known as "Rock 101")

The cassette still plays great!

This is a great power pop song. I had to "google" the song title because I wasn't sure if the title was correct.From the info I found Stan was a Canadian artist , I only remember hearing the song this one time, I'm sure happy I got it on tape!)

Cool mix, Ken! You've included a lot of good songs here. I've always loved She's Mine, but it seems that is one of those songs that you never hear anymore.

The only Prism song I'm familiar with is Don't Let Him Know, which is a cool track. I'd be interested in hearing more of their work.

Side 1:
I've like Sam Cooke's version of Another Saturday Night better than the cover. Kinda of anti version you hear first. I know I heard Cat Stevens version first, but Sam's is so much better.
25 or 6 to 4 is a timeless classic.

Side 2:
Hotel California is probably in my top 50 songs ever. Great, great song.
Let's Live for Today & Sunny Afternoon are great 60s tracks
And Oh Sherrie by Steve Perry ain't bad either.

Ditto. Not for the reason that Ed would say, but because Cat's version just seems busy and cluttered by comparison. Sam's version hearkens (sp?) back to a time when recordings were simpler. Plus, as Woody said here, I heard Cat's version first--I heard it when it first came out, and perhaps I got burned out on it.

Make that three of us who prefer Sam's - it just seems smoother and stylewise, is a better fit for the lyrics. Cat's version sounds a little hyper and forced.

Laura, are you saying that I would say that I prefer Sam Cooke's version because I heard it first or because Yusef Islam is a terrorist pig?

Actually I used to like the terrorist version about as much as Sam's - maybe for the very reasons that you, Woody and Dawn don't care for it. The hyperness and busyness of it kinda go better for the song I think. It IS an anxious song - "I don't have anybody, and I want somebody" That's not exactly a laid-back message.

But since Cat became Yusef, I don't listen to him anymore.

I also heard Cat's version first, I thought it was ok ( I really liked his other hits) but I prefer Sam's so much more. Dawn's description of Cat's cover is perfect, it does seem somewhat hyper.
