I'm just going to cut and paste what I put on Martina's board. I put "It was terrible" in the subject line over there to get their attention! LOL! It was anything BUT terrible! Easily the best concert I have been to. She did 15 songs, 2 less than last summer, she dropped 8, and added 6, and I was VERY pleased with what she added.
Here is what I said:
I considered this my first "proper" Martina concert. I saw the Christmas show in 02, and saw her at the big country fest in Wisconsin last summer, but there I was WAY back on the grass. This was my first "real" experience.
And what an experience! Martina looked and sounded great! Her hair seemed to have grown again since the last TV appearance! LOL! But it looked really cute. I love the razor cut hairdo on her. (My wife is a beautician, that's how I know that. ) She had on like a black tanktop that then had lace up to her neck and short sleeves. And......the famous pants reared their ugly head!!! LOL! Also black heel boots.
Here is the set list first:
This One's For the Girls
Wild Angels
How Far
Where Would You Be
Concrete Angel
She's a Butterfly
*unplugged*
I Love You
Recluctant Daughter
Wrong Again
*back to plugged in*
So Magical
In My Daughter's Eyes
Whatever You Say
A Broken Wing
Independence Day
Encore
When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues
For a little bit of TOFTG, the sound was a little muffled, and I said, "that can't be Martina's voice doing that". It wasn't. It was adjusted and sounded great from then on.
About halfway through, she pointed out how people like to hear old favorites, and not much new stuff. She said she was only going to play "the good ones" from the new album. (They're all good!!) I was surprised at this just because she is out promoting her album and is at the peak of her career, not a nostolgia act like the Beach Boys. But my wife pointed out she was probably doing that for the benefit of the Alan fans that are probably only familiar with the old biggies. So that makes sense.
Honestly, the best part for me was hearing the new songs! It was so exciting hearing the new stuff live!! I'm so glad I got to see the second night of the tour! And hey, she did 6 of them! It was especially cool hearing Magical and Butterfly!
And anyone questioning her loyalty to country just needs to her sing Reluctant Daughter live!
The mini acoustic set was really cool. Very interesing take on I Love You.
And of course she did all her "Martina-isms". During Wild Angels she did the loud "CRAZY FOOLS LIKE US!" And during I Love You at the end, "Chicago, I Love YOU!" and the cute "Do you love me too" while batting her eyes.
During WWYB, she was moving and groovin' much like on the Flameworthys, with her feet planted firmly and swiveling around.
She was also dancing a lot during So Magical!
In My Daughter's Eyes was unbelievable. She had two screens up there showing video and stills of Delaney and Emma. It was so moving, my wife had to stop watching. Heck, I was tearing up.
I was SO happy when she went into Whatever You Say!! And as much as that is my fave, she blew the roof off the place with Broken Wing! It was really a great audience too, they gave her a LONG standing "O" after that song.
During the spoken, "as for the Easter cantada", you could tell she had been singing her little head off!
I had great seats. My only complaint about the whole show is they weren't first row!
Thank you Martina for putting on a show only you can.
Can everyone appreciate Martina in concert? No.
Only people with ears.
