Every year, Manhattan KS hosts a Country Music Stampede. This is a 4 day concert held at the Tuttle Creek State Park. Normally I wouldn't pay attention because it is a "country music" concert. But this year, they've got a great line up of artists, including Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts, & the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. But Sunday Jun 27th is the best day of the event & I've got tickets. Charlie Daniels & the Steve Miller Band will close the event, under the stars, on Sunday night. Charlie will play at 6:00 PM & Steve at 8:00. I'll have to sit through Blue Country, Craig Morgan, & Teri Clarke, but that's okay, it's worth the wait. I'll give my critique probably Monday Jun 28th.
In case you're wondering why Steve Miller is at a Country Concert, it's not unusual for the promoters to include a classic rock band at this festival. Styx & the Beach Boys have played at previous stampedes.

There's going to be a Country Music Stampede in KY on June 4-6, but I'm not going. And Reba and Martina will be there too. Sounds like you're in for a great show. I hope you enjoy it!

Well, on Sunday, my daughter & I went to the final day of the Country Stampede. Since it had rained all night Saturday and pretty much all Sunday morning, the concert site had puddles that resembled lakes and mud everywhere (enough to make mud pies to feed a small army). We missed Blue Country and only saw about half of Craig Morgan's show. Craig did a good job although I didn't know any of the songs. Terri Clark was next and although I didn't know most of her songs, I thought she did a great job. She has a powerful voice and a great back up band. She did do a nice cover of Linda Ronstadt's Poor Poor Pitiful Me. Charlie Daniels played next and he energized & entertained the crowd for an hour & half. He did his hits, non-hits, bluegrass, & gospel. He allowed several members of the CDB to showcase their particular talents. He closed his show with South's Gonna Do It Again, a 10 minute version of Orange Blossom Special, & encored with Devil Went Down to Georgia. A very impressive show Steve Miller came next and was the last act for the day and the Stampede. I was disappointed that a lot of people left before he started, and they missed out on a great concert. Steve started his part of the show with Swingtown & Dance, Dance, Dance. He then did a 40 minute blues set that was awesome. He then did all his hits (except for Living in the USA), and closed with Fly Like an Eagle, Jet Airliner, an encored with The Joker.
Although the day was overcast and damp, and there was mud & water everywhere, I'd do it again. My daughter thought both Charlie & Steve were great, but Charlie was the more entertaining performer. I would have to agree with her.

Sounds like a pretty complete set list from Steve, although Living in the USA would be the main song I'd want to see! Glad your daughter is experiencing some real music!

I'm coming into this one a little late, but I've been to 2 CDB shows, and I always have a ball. And I don't like country music. I give him props as being one amazingly talented guy, and a real sweeite!
