I am sure most of you long timers remember me talking about our local town fest. They have full days of music acts, and usually get pretty good ones. In the past I have seen Paul Revere & the Raiders, Steppenwolf, Turtles, Survivor, Buckinghams and Eddie Money!
This year, the lineup isn't as strong. The national acts, for the most part, were huge in Chicago, but otherwise were minor acts nationally.
On Friday, July 9, the headlining act is a cover band called Infinity. As you may have guessed, they are a Journey tribute band. I don't think much of them though. They don't do anything to look like the band. They also do similar sounding bands like Kansas, Boston, Triumph, etc. Now while Steve Perry, Steve Walsh, Brad Delp and Rik Emmett have SIMILAR high pitched voices, they are not identical. And this guy makes no effort to sound different.
On Saturday the 10th, the second to last act of the day is the the Buckinghams. They of course were the most successful of these Chicago acts with several top 40 hits, including the number 1, Kind of a Drag. Of course, they have been here so many years, most of us are thinking it's "kind of a drag".
The headliner that night is the Randy Bachman Band. Probably some legal thing where he can't use BTO. So that should be interesting.
On Sunday the 11th, the second to last act is the second to last act of the day is the Cryan' Shames. Although they never cracked the national top 40, I know some of you know them, especially their cover of the Searchers's Sugar & Spice. They are HUGE favorites here.
The headliner that night is New Colony Six. Again, huge faves in Chicago, but only a couple of national top 40's. I personally rank them above the Association but below the Beach Boys for lite rock harmonies.
Should be fun overall.
