Yep, another big M fan here. ;D
I attended her Cheyenne, Wyoming concert this past Saturday after having been lucky enough to win a pair of tickets from a local radio station. Here's the review. It's copy and pasted, as I've posted it a few other places. And it's also kind of all over the place (I'm still on a high from it, heh). Sorry about that.
The concert was so unbelievably amazing. Mark Wills was okay (better the first time I saw him, back in 2001), but Martina was fantastic.
Here's the setlist. Not sure if it'll be in the correct order, as I didn't write it down, but it should be pretty close.
1 When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues
2 Happy Girl
3 Love's the Only House
4 Valentine
5 Wild Angels
6 My Baby Loves Me
7 Where Would You Be
8 Thanks a Lot
9 You Ain't Woman Enough
10 Heartaches By the Number
11 Stand By Your Man
12 Concrete Angel
13 In My Daughter's Eyes
14 Hit Me With Your Best Shot
15 This One's For the Girls
16 A Broken Wing
17 Independence Day
Encore:
18 Rose Garden
19 Over The Rainbow
She got about a 2 minute Standing O after ABW, and another one after Indy Day. And after that, the whole audience stood until she left for good.
Most of the people around me looked quite bored during the classics, but I saw that they were surprised when she did HMWYBS. Especially one guy... his eyes got big and he got this huge grin on his face. Oh, and Martina, right before she broke into it, said something like, "Everybody's got a little Pat Benatar in them, right?" Loved that, hahaha.
I heard numerous, "That was the best show I've ever been to" and "Man, she's got an amazing voice" and "I never knew all those songs were hers"... when we were walking out to the car. It's great to already be one of the enlightened ones, heh. Another one I heard was, "She did pretty damn good on that Pat song..." I almost turned to the woman and told her that Pat was going to be in Denver on Tuesday night. But I didn't.
Concrete Angel was amazing. I thought M was going to start crying during the last verse and chorus, but she held it together.
Ha, during the Standing O after ABW, she didn't know what to do with herself. Ran her hand through her hair, switched the mic between hands a couple times, etc. It was funny. I'd be the same way... "I'm not THAT great, you guys, jeesh."
During the first part of the show, some guy threw his cowboy hat up onstage. She picked it up, looked inside it, then put it on. I tried getting a picture of her with it on, but I think I got it right as she was taking it off. Guess we'll see when the film is developed.
My grandma LOVED the show. Said it was the best concert she's ever been to. And that's saying a lot, because she is a BIG Alan Jackson fan. She couldn't get over how big a voice M has. Heee. I knew this concert would win her over for good.
I'm just totally happy that I was actually up that early on Saturday morning, actually had the radio tuned to that station, and was actually lucky enough to be the 7th caller... seems those tickets were meant to be mine.
Oh, and the seats were AWESOME. Kinda far from the stage, and Martina WAS only an inch tall, but we were dead center. Amazing. Heeee.
So, ummm... Martina has topped the Pat show from last year. And that's saying a lot coming from me, because that show was outstanding. So Pat will have a hard time taking back over the top spot in my book.
