Really good choice today Dawn. The first CSNY album I got. Loads of songs on here, as you would expect from the level of talent in this band. Great rock songs like Woodstock & Carry On and great ballads like Teach Your Children & Our House. The album cuts weren't bad either, Almost Cut My Hair, Helpless, & Deja Vu. Favorites: already mentioned.

I've been REALLY into this album lately, which should come as no surprise, since everybody knows how much I've been into that country/folk rock of that time period recently.
Back when I was first hearing a lot of CSN/CSNY, I got Crosby, Stills & Nash on disc, but I got this on vinyl because I didn't get as into the radio cuts on this one. But the cuts that don't get play, or don't get as much on here are AWESOME!!!
The tracks I am specifically speaking of is Deja Vu, Country Girl Suite and Everybody I Love You. Deja Vu I finally starting hearing on the "Timeless" rock station we have hear. Country Girl Suite MAY be the best thing I've ever heard Neil do. Simply beautiful. And Everybody I Love You, I can't understand why this doesn't get radio play! Great little track!
Certainly a legendary album!

Hi Dawn. Super Album.
Faves from this album: Teach Your Children Almost Cut My Hair Woodstock (also like the Matthew's Southern Comefort version of this) Our House Carry On
I was talking to someone about Teach Your Children the other day. Shortly after the single was released in 1970, and was climbing the charts, the Kent State Massacre occured. CSN&Y quickly recorded and released "Ohio" and the two songs more or less competed.

Pretty good! It does have the CSN song I hate the worst- "Our House". But then it has "4 and 20"- my favorite unplayed-on-the-radio CSN song. I've never decided whether I like this "Woodstock" the best, or the Matthew's Southern Comfort version.

Although I like the first album better, I think there are some great cuts here. Carry On, Helpless, and the title track are all standouts.

Love it!! Awesome album - I actually bought the debut first ( on Vinyl ) then added Deja Vu on CD sometime in the early 90's . I also found the 45's of Our House and Woodstock in the 80's So many amazing tunes: Carry On(outstanding harmonies - love the acoustic strumming on the intro , 4 +20 ( one of Stephen's best) , Teach Your Children, Almost Cut My Hair ( Go David!) Woodstock - of course , Country Girl Medly and Deja Vu. I also really love Dallas Taylor's drumming througout the album

One of their finest albums, with lots of variety.

I also love the country/folk rock of that era - the songs still hold up so well today. 'Deja Vu' is wonderful, and like you I'm starting to hear it more and more often. As strong as the radio cuts are, I agree that the album cuts are gems!

Thanks, H2! 'Teach Your Children' is a song I grow to love more and more each time I hear it - what a classic! I hadn't realized that those two singles were released so close together, but you are absolutely correct - they first entered the top 40 within weeks of each other.

I agree that '4 + 20' is very overlooked on the radio, which is a shame, because it's such a fine song. CSN & Y's version of 'Woodstock' is great, but I especially love Matthews' Southern Comfort's.

'Carry On' is my favorite track on this album, and is one of their all-time best songs, IMO. 'Helpless' is another good one - the music and lyrics have a nice wistful quality that's appealing.

I also love the harmonies on 'Carry On' - they were so expert at seamlessly blending their voices. 'Woodstock' is such a great song of the times. All three versions I've heard (CSN & Y's, Matthews' Southern Comfort's, and Joni Mitchell's) are very nicely done.

My fave CSN (& Y!) album!
One GREAT acoustic guitar on "Carry on". Teach your children is one of the best countrified rock songs I've ever heard. Almost cut my hair is a little silly, definitely not boring! Woodstock-the lyrics say it all. The ultimate rock festival; an anthem. Deja Vu-super title track. And my fave of all their tunes ever... OUR HOUSE! This would have been a bigger hit (#30) if singles sales weren't so dissapointing, due to the album's popularity. I could play it all day long.
