Morning Dawn
Let it Be - One of my favorite Beatle albums. Have it on vinyl. Kind of the final chapter in the Beatles' legacy. Great album. Couple of hits, lots of just great album cuts. The song "Let it Be" is one of my top two or three favorite Beatle songs. IMO this album measures up to any of their previous ones. Good choice. Favorites: Let it Be, Long & Winding Road, Across the Universe, Two of Us, For You Blue, Get Back, Dig A Pony, I Me Mine, Dig It.

I'm interested in hearing the "de-Spectorized" version when it comes out.
Several years ago, I heard a bootleg CD called "As Nature Intended", which was the "Get Back" album as Glyn Johns assembled it in early '69, before the project was shelved. What a piece of S***! What I heard on that CD was literaly SO bad it would have destroyed their career if they released it in that state! Since then, I have been of the firm belief that Phil Spector SAVED the album, and I'm not the only one! John Lennon thought so, I wonder how he would feel about the new version if he were alive today.
However, I'm not as well educated on the "Get Back" sessions as I am of Brian Wilsons "Smile" sessions. I'm sure that others can give a better insight. As for the "Let It Be" album, it's good. It's definitely not their "swan song" though, "Abbey Road" is. "Let It Be" is like the final closure, the "tying up of loose ends".

Hi Dawn - Great choice! heard this lots as a kid ( my brothers had all the Beatle albums. I bought my vinyl copy in the early 80's and also have it on CD and 8 - Track. I love every track on the album especially Two Of Us , Across The Universe , Get Back , I've Got a Feeling , The Long and Winding Road and Let It Be ( for the last two , I have to admit that I like the versions heard in The Let It Be movie without the orchestration . I was hoping that they would have included those versions on the Anthology 3 collection. Even though the band was falling apart they could still make great music!

Hmmmmm, now I remember hearing just the opposite-that Lennon HATED the Across the Universe Spector did, preferring the Wildlife version. Unless he changed his mind. In the "Lennon Remembers" interview for Rolling Stone in the early 70's he praised Spector's work on the album. And he did continue to work with him with The Plastic Ono Band. The Wildlife Version was actually completed a year before the Get Back sessions, originally slated for single release (it lost to Lady Madonna) in early '68. I have no idea how that song ended up in Spector's hands.

I'm not real big on this album. It's probably my least listened to of all their albums.
What I think would have improved it would have been the OTHER rooftop version of Get Back (the one that didn't even end up on Anthology), with the extended instrumental ending and John wailing on the guitar.
Also, the full length Dig it!
Finally, the fast version of Two of Us! LOVE that!!
That being said, I do like the regular version of Two of Us, I've Got a Feeling, Across the Universe and Long and Winding Road.

For some reason, I haven't listened to this album as often as most of their others, and I sometimes forget how many great songs are on this one. 'Let It Be' is a song I grow to love more and more each time I hear it - what a classic!

This is a great album, but I've always wished that it was a little more even. Some of the songs like 'The Long and Winding Road' are somewhat overproduced, while others sound a little unfinished. It will be great to compare the two versions.

I agree with you about the unorchestrated versions. I don't really mind the Spectorized versions, but I think the songs have a more powerful emotional impact with the simpler arrangements.

Not my fave Beatles album, but still nice. The title track, Across the Universe, and the last 3 are my faves.

I'm the same way with this album - although I enjoy many of the songs on it, I don't listen to it that often. That other rooftop version of 'Get Back' sounds awesome - I don't believe I've ever heard that one! The songs you mentioned are all favorites of mine as well!
