This is always a cool topic.
What are your recent CD purchases? Sunday and Monday, Circuit City had a 2 day sale-all single disc CD's were $9.99!
Now, their selection SUCKS these days, but I was DETERMINED to find SOMETHING! LOL!
So I was actually happy to come away with Gordon Lightfoot's Greatest Hits, the complete one Rhino came out with recently. I was glad to get this because otherwise I would have had to gotten his two volumes of GH for like only 1 song on the second one!
I also picked up Alison Krause & Union Station, New Favorite. I have made fun of how quiet she sings, but I ended up LIKING so many of her popular songs! So I thought, why not!
Any recent purchases?

The Gordon Lightfoot collection is really good! I got it a year ago.
As for CD's, I've just been buying all of the Rush catalog. I bought all the remasters from "A Farewell To Kings" through "Hold Your Fire" last month.
Then, last week, I went to half.com and bought "Presto", "Roll The Bones", and "Counterparts" for only $2 each!

Let's see...as you know Sat, I very rarely buy cd's brand new--unless there's a good deal on 'em, or there's something that I really truly have to have. I can usually find some good used CD's at thrift stores and garage sales. Lately, I've found some pretty good ones. Here's a few: The Corrs--In Blue Celine Dion (yeah, I know)--A Decade of Song Luther Vandross (love him)--The Best of Love Vol. 2 Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion Soundtrack. 10,000 Maniacs--MTV Unplugged Anne Murray--The Best So Far Paul McCartney--McCartney Various Artists--If I Were a Carpenter (Carpenters Tribute) Jeff Buckley--Grace (my brother loves this guy. He's always telling me I should give him a listen. Now I will). Rickie Lee Jones--Traffic From Paradise Green Day--Insomniac Foo Fighters--Foo Fighters (Surprisingly enough, as much as I love the Foos, I didn't have this CD before now). That's about it. I almost bought JoDee Messina's Greatest Hits at Target today. It was on sale for $9.99. But I had gone there to buy birthday presents for people, so I was kinda on a budget, and knew I couldn't be buying anything for myself. But I may go back before the week's over and pick it up. Sheesh! Sorry for the long post.

I was in a "greatest hits" buying mood and got these at the local used CD joint.
Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Experience Hendrix, The Best of Jimi Hendrix Peter Gabriel - Shaking The Tree, Sixteen Golden Greats ELV1S, 30 #1 Hits BTO's Greatest Boston's Greatest Hits
I really not sure I want to replicate my entire vinyl/cassette collection on CD. I like having the biggies on CD and play the vinyl album cuts when I'm in the mood.

That's awesome you are building your Rush catalog. From what I heard about Presto and Roll the Bones, I can see why they were only $2 each! LOL!

From what I heard about Presto and Roll the Bones, I can see why they were only $2 each! LOL! Actually, I've played them both, and I think they are both very good (but then again, I'm always the guy who loves the albums everybody hates, and hates the albums everybody loves!)

[glow=red,2,300]The last CD I purchased was Moulin Rouge 2 last summer. I haven't bought a CD in so long. We used to have a used CD store (CD Warehouse) but it went out of business...at one point they were selling used CD's at 5 for $1, so my friend who needed jazz CD's for a class he was taking really stocked up.
My next CD purchases will probably be by Linkin Park or System of a Down, more likely Linkin Park. When I have a lot more money, I will get some import video game soundtracks. [/glow]

Hey, good stuff! What does your used CD place charge? Dylan, P. Gabriel, Hendrix, & Boston were $7.99 BTO & Elvis were $4.99 About a month ago I got The Beatles Anthology, The Best of the Doors, & Blondie's Platinum Collection, all double discs, all used, all in great shape, for $16.99 each. Our local used CD place gives me (and others) a dollar discount on any used CD regularly priced $3.99 or better because I carry a military ID card.

Last week I picked up the Footloose 15th Anniversary CD, which includes four extra songs from the movie. Been meaning to buy that sucker forever, so I finally did it while browsing through the DVD racks.

The most recent CD purchases I made were at a rummage sale where you could fill up a grocery bag for $5. ;D So I bought these CD's, PLUS a little M&M dispenser, some toys for my son, a child-size baseball cap, a video, and 2 books--for $5. Anyway, by the time I got there, they only had 6 CD's left, and I snatched them all up and bought them. They were: Take 6-"He is Christmas" BoDeans-"Blend" Kirsty MacColl-"Tropical Brainstorm" Sheila Nicholls-"Wake" Matthew Good Band-"Beautiful Midnight" Great Big Sea-"Turn" Now, I have to admit that the last three on this list were by artists I had never heard--or even heard _OF_. But hey, $5 for a whole bag of stuff, right? So I bought all the CD's and I wound up liking them all. In fact I enjoy the Great Big Sea (Celtic-flavored folk-rock group from Newfoundland, Canada) CD so much, and had a feeling my mother-in-law would like it too, that I recently bought her one of their CD's at Borders (not the same CD I have, though; I couldn't find it). Ain't thrift shopping grand! ;D

Let's see:
The Essential Banarama - it's good
Edie Brickell and New Bohemians - Shooting Rubberbands At The Stars - had the tape years ago
The Essential Adam Ant - also good
Weird Al - Poodle Hat - the verdict is still out on this one. It's growing on me. Not as bad as Alapalooza (my least favorite album) but not as good as In 3-D or Off The Deep End. I like the songs he's parodying, but I'm not fond of the polka medley, I guess because I don't like the groups he's got in the medley. Some of his original songs are good, but the hardware store one really stinks. Party At The Leper Colony is pretty funny.
I've got Wham - Final - on order. It's supposed to ship June 19. That won't be here soon enough. I'm anxious for it. It's an import, but there has never been a good Wham greatest hits in US release.
Absolutely ABC - another good one.
Big Audio Dynamite - Greatest hits - good.
That's it! Can't find anything good used lately....
