While I won't argue that this was a hugely successful album (the whole first side is singles), this was Journey past me liking them.
Separate Ways and Chain Reaction are both good (not great), but the three love songs just DRIP of sap. Too many love songs, too much Jonathan Cain influence.
I don't own this, but glad Separate Ways is on the box. What a cheesy video! LOL!!

Good Morning Dawn:) At the time they were of course still riding high on the success of Escape(which I played over and over)I was very happy Journey were once again releasing a new album . Shortly after hearing Separate Ways a few times on the radio I went out and bought the LP .I have since then upgraded to CD. There are some pretty good songs on it Faves: Separate Ways(powerful intro) , Send Her My Love , Chain Reaction , Faithfully (Friday Night Videos played this clip alot actually I remember seeing a show where Jonathan Cain and Neil Schon guest hosted) and After The Fall.

The album cuts in particular seem more consistent, and more on a par with the singles. Having said that, there are some great songs on this one, including 'Separate Ways', my all-time favorite Journey song! I don't think I've ever seen the video to it, though.

Hi Ken! I remember Escape was huge back in the early 80's - what a great album! Although not quite as good as Escape, I think Frontiers was a solid follow-up to it. I remember I loved 'Separate Ways' from the first time I heard it back in February 1983. I agree, that intro is so intense - love it! 'After the Fall' is awesome too!

Not quite as strong as "Escape", but they still kept it rockin'! Right around the time when their video game was a big fave of mine! Especially LOVE "After the fall", with "Frontiers", "Separate ways", "Chain reaction", and "Faithfully" (their 2nd best ballad) right behind. Never liked "Send her my love".

'After the Fall' is great, definitely one of the highlights of the album! Unfortunately, though, that's a song I rarely if ever hear on the radio anymore. 'Chain Reaction' is one of the best of the non-single cuts!
