I had this album for years and never bothered to listen to Superstars or Miss America! Ended up hearing them later, and they are my two faves from the album!
Loved Come Sail Away growing up. Had the (horriblly chopped up) single. Then when I discovered classic rock radio, they played the hell out of Fooling Yourself and the title track. That was when I got the disc. A little burnt on those now, but love the two listed above!
Their best album.

I think this is the album where Styx put it all together. In my opinion, their finest album and one of my all time favorites by anybody. For me it was seeing Styx live in London in 1980 and watching them close the show (and bring down the house) with Come Sail Away (still my favorite Styx song). Besides the two chart hits, the album cuts were terrific and highlighted the strengths of the band (keyboards and the powerful vocals). Great album, Practically wore out the vinyl version. Favorites: Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, Miss America, Superstars, Fooling Yourself, Grand Finale.

Both my middle brother and my cousin had the 8 - track back then .I remember riding along in my cousin's '68 Chevy Nova while Come Sail Away played . I picked up my vinyl copy a couple of years ago. Great album - faves Come Sail Away , Fooling Yourself , Grand Illusion , Miss America.

I love Styx! I only have the Greatest Hits, so I'm only familiar with four cuts on this album, but I hope to get some of the original albums soon.

It's surprising that they don't receive more airplay on classic rock stations. I have the 'Come Sail Away' single also - that song does not edit well, unfortunately. I really like both singles from the album, but I agree that they have been overplayed through the years.

Sometimes I think this group is a little underappreciated today. They had a very distinctive sound, and Dennis DeYoung's vocals and keyboards were outstanding.

I remember hearing it often on the radio back then. 'Grand Illusion' is a superb album track.

I'd also recommend Pieces of Eight and Paradise Theater - both of those have many excellent songs as well.

Isn't this the album that had the poster included with it? I had a Styx poster on my wall--I think it came from The Grand Illusion. LOL!
Anyway, great album. I love Styx. Miss America and Fooling Yourself are probably my faves from this album. Come Sail Away is wonderful, but I'm a little burnt on it.

I think 'Paradise Theater' had a poster with it as well. One of the things I miss about LPs are the extras that came with them, such as posters and cutouts. I imagine many of those items are collectible these days.

CD's are great, but the extras that were sometimes included with albums were really something special. And wasn't it always great to buy an album that had a gatefold cover? How cool were they???

How cool were they??? Those gatefold covers were great! I've always liked to look at album covers while listening to the records - CDs just aren't quite the same that way.
