I don't really think about it, but this was a pretty big album for them! Four songs made the charts. My City Was Gone got FM play and 2000 Miles must be a band fave, having made their greatest hits.
And Dawn, this is yet ANOTHER album that was in my neighbor's garbage! I forgot I had it until I was looking through my albums last week!
While this WAS a big hit, I prefer the early stuff with James Honeyman-Scott and Peter Farndon better.

This was a very popular album for Chrissie and the guys , A tough period as well still coping with the loss of Peter - he was only 30 wow.
I have this on both cassette and good old vinyl . Back on The Chain Gang was the first tune I believe I heard from the album and along with Middle of the Road are still radio faves. Faves : Show Me - great drumming , My City Was Gone , Back on The Chain Gang , Middle of The Road, 2000 Miles and the nice cover of Thin Line Between Love and Hate.

I have this on CD, but I've never listened to the whole thing. Probably because I love the original line-up so much it's hard to accept anything else. But the songs that were hits were all good!
Hopefully the first album will be a contender for album of the day sometime down the road....

I've always liked this album, but sometimes I tend to forget about it until I hear one of the hits from it. I like the earlier stuff as well, especially 'Mystery Achievement'. GREAT song! I still can't imagine why they would have wanted to have thrown those albums away! There were some excellent titles there!

This band definitely went through some tragic times. It seems like we've lost so many performers at young ages - very sad. I remember hearing 'Back on the Chain Gang' a lot back in the winter and spring of 1983, before this album was released. 'Show Me' has always been my favorite.

I think this is probably the first Pretenders album I owned, and after hearing it, I HAD to go and check out their earlier stuff. Now I'm a big Pretenders fan.
Love every song on this one. Y'know, who would have ever thought to do a song called "Watching the Clothes". How unique is that? LOL! Also like Show Me, I Hurt You (LOVE that), 2000 Miles, and My City Was Gone. And Time The Avenger, and Middle of the Road. Well, like I said, I love 'em all! ;D

I agree, 'Watching the Clothes' is a pretty unique title! LOL!

Great album, Dawn. Back On The Chain Gang, 2000 Miles and Thin Line Between Love And Hate are standouts. Thanks, JP. It was years before I realized that 'Thin Line Between Love and Hate' was a cover version - at the time this album came out, I thought it was a Pretenders' original. They really do a wonderful job with that song!
