Hi Dawn -The only CD I have of The Pretenders is the Singles collection so I'm only familiar with the hits .
I always enjoyed Kid , nice guitar playing from James on this, cool video too with the band on the playground.
Stop Your Sobbing - Great version of this Klassic Kinks tune - I beleive Chrissie dated Ray Davies for a short while?
Tattooed Love Boys - I've heard this on the radio every so often.
Brass in Pocket - Remember seeing this video quite a lot as well - The first tune I remember hearing - I believe one of my buddy's had the 45 at the time.

Now THIS is the Pretenders!! In my late teens, I used to sit for hours playing Nintendo and cranking this album! There isn't a bad song on it! This album is the reason why I can't get into anything they've done since '83!

'Brass in Pocket' was the first Pretenders song I heard also, and it's always been a favorite. I agree, their version of 'Stop Your Sobbing' is excellent. Yes, Chrissie and Ray Davies were romantically involved - they have a daughter together, born just before Learning to Crawl was released, I believe.

A wonderful debut, and as you say, there are no bad songs on this album. My favorite is 'Mystery Achievement' - love it!

Well, of course I know Brass in Pocket because it was huge, especially on MTV. I also remember Kid being played on there.
Then I got the Singles tape, and heard Stop Your Sobbing. Also have the Kinks version. Not too much difference in sound. And yes Ken, they WERE married!
I taped Tattooed Love Boys off VH-1 Classic. Good tune! Actually that and Precious are both on The Concert for Kampuchea which I have on cassette, but I had never listened to them. I should listen to Precious now!

The Brass In Pocket video is good. She's a waitress, and the guys from the band come in to order, and I like the part when she's taking their order, and it's the part with "I'm special, so special" and when the guys do the background "special" they point to the menu where it says "todays SPECIAL". It's pretty cute.

Hi Dawn
Another group with a great debut album. I remember when Brass in Pocket came out. I decided then this was a must have album. Many good songs here and another worn out vinyl album. Good choice. Favorites: Brass in Pocket, Kid, Stop the Sobbing, Precious, Space Invader, Tattooed Love Boys, Private Life.

I think they really did a wonderful job with 'Stop Your Sobbing'. As Sat mentioned, the two versions are similar, but Chrissie's voice adds a nice touch to the song.

I remember hearing 'Brass in Pocket' a lot on the radio in early 1980, but didn't hear the other songs until much later. I think several of the songs could have done very well as follow-up singles to 'Pocket'.
