As much as I love Steely, this is one of my lesser faves. This and Gaucho have the least amount of cuts that get radio play. Around here anyway. If I never here Do it Again again, it'll be too soon. I've even got a little burnt on Reeling, but it's still a good tune. Dirty Work gets lots of play here, and so many people don't realize it's the Dan, because Fagan (hey, I'm able to put his name here!! ) is not on lead. They also play Midnight Cruiser, which I didn't know for a long time. I actually have this on vinyl, despite it being a lesser fave.

This was a group it took me a long time to get into, and then it's still more for various songs than as a group. The one thing here I really like is "Do It Again". First thing I ever heard by them on the radio. Great instrumental bridge.
That's kinda balanced by my really disliking "Reeling in the Years". And it's played so much on the radio!

Heard this many times around the house as a kid , and because of that it's one of my favorite Steely Dan albums. I have the remastered CD ( MCA did a great job) . Still love Reeling in The Years after all these years there's just something about it.
Faves - Reeling In The Years , Dirty Work , Change of The Guard , Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me) , Kings , Do It Again and Midnight Cruiser.

I actually bought this tape because of "Dirty Work"(reminds me of some of the jobs I've had ;D), though I also like "Do It Again" and "Reelin'".

That's a good point about the cuts on this album and Gaucho not getting much radio play. I think I've only heard the singles from these albums on the classic rock stations where I live, although some of the deeper cuts from their other albums get played occasionally. 'Dirty Work' and 'Midnight Cruiser' are both great. LOL about Donald Fagen! I had to retype a long post on YL 3 or 4 times because of that silly censor they had!

I think 'Do It Again' was probably the first song I ever heard of theirs as well. I was only 4 years old at the time. Such a classic song, and I agree, that instrumental bridge is great!

I'm with you on 'Reeling in the Years', Ken - I've always loved that one also. Great lyrics, and there is some superb guitar work on it. Both it and 'Do It Again' bring back a lot of memories from when I was very young.

Great album! Used to have it on cassette; looking for it on CD! I'd like to get this one on CD myself sometime. All of my Steely Dan albums are on vinyl, but I'd love to upgrade them all to CD one of these days.

Hi Dawn
Another great one by Steely Dan. As with most Steely Dan albums, you have to look beyond the hits (two good ones) and listen to the album cuts. I think this album had some really strong album cuts that were better than the hits. Got this on vinyl & cassette. Great album. Favorites: Do It Again, Dirty Work, Midnight Cruiser, Brooklyn, Only a Fool Would Say That, Reelin' in the Years.

Many times, the single cuts on an album are among the strongest, but with Steely Dan's work, that's not necessarily the case. I do love both 'Do It Again' and 'Reeling in the Years', but there are some excellent album cuts on this one also.
