Almost unquestionably, the best hard rock album ever made, over all the stuff by G-n-R, Led Zep, others. While the album definitely sounded like a "formulaic shoo-in" for top 40 radio, the songs still stand out as GREAT classics. This was in my top 20 albums for like TWO WHOLE YEARS! I loved the previous Pyromania, but Hysteria was just somly over-the-top. And the following "Adrenalize" may have been a rehash of "Hysteria", but it was still great. Not even a half-bad song on there, period. Faves, in order: Pour some sugar on me (Lord, I HATE the "Euro-mix" that appears on "Vault"!) Armageddon it Love bites (man, my college rock stations HATED to play this!) Animal Rocket Women Hysteria Excitable Run Riot Don't shoot shotgun Gods of war Love and affection BRAVO!!!

Classic ?? I totally agree I don't have LP BUT I do have the hits from it on the Vault collection - love that disc as well as a couple on a mix tape. I've always really liked the band and alot of people I knew back in High School did as well . They had the heavy guitars but had plenty of melody on top. Thought the video for Rocket was great with all the different pics of Bowie , Sweet , The Fab Four etc Faves - Rocket , Animal , Love Bites , Pour Some Sugar On Me , Armageddon It and Hysteria. I remember Def Leppard was huge at my high school also - just about everyone I knew had a copy of Pyromania! This group was one of the first hard rock/metal bands I got into, and they're still one of my favorites today. There are some really good songs on this album!

This album definitely ranks up there as one of the finest hard rock albums in music history. 'Armageddon It' is probably my favorite track. It really has their signature sound, with some wonderful guitar work. I think this album and Pyromania capture the group at their best, although I also like a lot of the cuts from High 'N' Dry.

Guess I should finally get to this, since I suggested it! LOL!
You know an album is strong when the entire first half is singles! Plus one on the second half.
Long time Leppard fans chanted "SELLOUT!" at this one, and yes, it was pure slick pop metal. But I dug it at the time.
LOVED the Animal single so much, I borrowed it from my buddy in 87 and have yet to return it!
Love the words and video to Rocket!
I thought the singles from this album would NEVER stop!

I completely agree about the singles. They kept on coming! It's true that the songs on this album were more pop-oriented than some of their very early stuff, but like you I think it turned out well, and was a good move for them.
