My wife has this tape (she loves Babe). That was the only tune I knew for a long time, but then in the past year or so, I finally heard Borrowed Time. Great song, with that typical Styx sound. I was surprised to find out it was a single.
Haven't really listened to the rest.

I bought my vinyl copy back in '79 and played it many times .One of the best albums of that year. I now have the CD . Babe was everywhere A fantastic album - love the drumming on the intro of Borrowed Time - just great. Faves - Lights , Boat on The River , Borrowed Time , Babe , Why Me , Eddie and Never Say Never.

Paradise Theatre may heave been bigger afterward, but this was truly their best IMHO. Some say they started to mellow out more with this album, and I fully agree. More versatile sounding than their past efforts, and FAR more commercial than progressive sounding. Two of their all time best are "Babe" and "Why me", and I also LOVE "Lights", "Never say never" and "Borrowed time". I have a vinyl copy given from my oldest brother. Am I going crazy, or have you not yet done "Dream Weaver" yet? Anyway, thanks for this!

Hi Dawn - Great choice.
Got the vinyl on this. I think there was a period where if Styx did something, I got the vinyl. Anyway, probaby my 2nd favorite album by Styx. Funny enough only two top 40s on this album, Babe & Why Me. I think Lights, Borrowed Time, & Never say Never were better than Why Me. Strong album cuts with Boat on the River, First Time, Love in the Midnight. Maybe not a must have album, but a quality one worth owning.

That surprised me too about ‘Borrowed Time’ being a single – it and ‘Why Me’ never seemed to get much airplay back in the day.

I agree with you about ‘Babe’ being everywhere back then. I heard it many times, but have never grown tired of it. It’s such a classic song, with beautiful keyboard work from Dennis. I really need to get this on CD one of these days.

I haven’t done Dream Weaver yet, but it will be coming up soon! You make a good point about them mellowing out with this album, and like you, I think it was to their advantage. Paradise Theater is probably the better-remembered album these days, but this one is excellent as well.

I'm surprised that there were only two top 40s from this album as well. There are quite a few songs that could have done very well as singles, IMO.
