I'm only familiar with the hits but they bring back great memories of the 70's . Make Me Smile is a song I had always wished we could have played in the High School Stage Band.
Colour My World - what a pretty tune - love the melody - really like the piano / flute combination.
Faves - Make Me Smile , Colour My World and 25 Or 6 To 4

ALL RIGHT! NOW YOU'RE TALKIN'! ;D
If I were stranded on the proverbial desert island with only this to listen to for the rest of my life, I would be one happy camper. From the blazing horns to the screaming guitar to the powerful vocals, this one has it all. I went through about 3 or 4 cassette copies of this one on my mom's wonderful Kenmore stereo(which seemed to have it in for my tapes)and Mom had at least one 8-track copy get eaten in the car. To this day, I can remember the exact place where "In The Country" was interrupted to change programs on the 8-track.
Faves: In The Country, Wake Up Sunshine, the entire Ballet For A Girl In Buchanon suite, 25 Or 6 To 4, It Better End Soon, Where Do We Go From Here.

Hi Dawn - Great album.
This is another from my vinyl collection that's pretty much wore out. One would think it would be hard to follow-up their first album with another great one, but Chicago did it and I think both were double albums. Chicago II has so many great songs, not all of them could be chart hits. That is the strength of this album. Hopefully a Rockhall nominee this year. Favorites: Wake up Sunshine, Make Me Smile, Colour My World, To Be Free, Fancy Colors, 25 or 6 to 4.

Great album!
Tracks 6-12 is all one suite called Ballet For Girl in Buchannon, like Smitty says. And yes, it includes Colour My World in there. Now More Than Ever is what you hear at the end of Make Me Smile on the radio ("Now I need you.....more than ever....."). The entire suite is awesome. And doesn't seem as long as it is.
25 or 6 to 4 of course is a legendary single.
Fancy Colours and Where Do We Go From Here are two album cuts I discovered on the box set. Both are good songs.
Wake Up Sunshine is a track that gets occasional airplay these days. Surprised it didn't make the box set. Cool song though.

Probably the best Chicago album, I love many of the tracks on this. I actually picked up a vinyl copy of this about 3 years ago and liked it so much I bought ALL the early Chicago albums! They quickly became one of my favorite groups!
Side one has 4 great songs, with some great jamming!
Side two has the GREAT "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon"
Side Three has "Fancy Colours" and "25 or 6 to 4", but the rest is kind of boring
Side four has the MONSTER jam "It Better End Soon".. MAN, I miss Terry Kath!!

'Colour My World' is beautiful, I agree. One of these days I need to get my flute out and learn that part!

This is a great album, Smitty - glad you suggested it! Their early work is top-notch, I agree. I love the brass arrangements, and Terry Kath's guitar work is outstanding. That Kenmore stereo sounds like a boom box of mine - it seemed to have an appetite for my tapes also!

You're right, that first album was a pretty hard act to follow, but I think they did a great job. I agree about the strength of their album cuts - the consistency is one of the things that sets their early work apart from their later work. Hopefully, this will be the year for the Rock Hall - I can't think of anyone more deserving!

I have most of their albums up through 17 on LPs and cassettes, but I'd love to get more of their work on CD. Like you, I'm surprised that 'Wake Up Sunshine' didn't make the box set!

I always loved the singles when I was growing up, but when I heard their album cuts later on, I was even more impressed! Those early albums (up through VIII) are excellent! The group was never the same without Terry Kath, I agree. He was a tremendous talent, and very much missed.
