The first of his 3 albums in the GREAT "hat trick" from 1977-1980 (I believe the other 2 were already featured, Dawn). I was never fond of "Die Young", but the rest of the album's great! Side 1 is absolutely KILLER, especially "Just". Plus "She's always a woman" is one of his best ballads.

His best album, I think. Not a bad song on here, but Scenes is my favorite of all his songs.

Actually, 6 of the 9 tracks here get regular or at least semi-regular play here. I'm not a big Joel fan, but that really says something about his music.
1. Decent tune, but I get sick of it. 2. The whistling in the beginning always reminded me of Winds of Change by the Scorpions! LOL! 3. Another nice tune, but I'm tired of it. 4. Only recently have heard this. Doesn't do a whole lot for me though. 6. This gets big classic rock play. Always liked it, but again, got sick of it from being overplayed. 7. Again, nice tune, just tired of it.

I loved this album! My copy was handed down to me by my sister in law in the late 70's. I played it all the time until one evening when I spilled Coca - Cola all over it and it became a sticky mess LOL . I've always enjoyed Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)(yeah!) and Scenes From an Italian Restaurant - even though it's been a long while since I've heard it. Other faves: Only The Good Die Young , She's Always a Woman , Just The Way You Are and Vienna

Hi Dawn - Great album
Maybe his best, certainly has some of his best work. One on several of his I got on vinyl. Over the years, I kind of got tired of Billy Joel and haven't listen to much of his in a very long time. Maybe it's time to pull them back out and have a listen, including this one. Favorites: Actually the only two songs I don't like are Vienna & Get it Right the First Time.

You're right about the "hat trick" - his work was never better than it was on those three albums. 'Just the Way You Are' and 'She's Always a Woman' are among his finest ballads, I agree - absolutely wonderful.

His best album, I think. Not a bad song on here, but Scenes is my favorite of all his songs. I probably lean a little more toward Glass Houses, but this album definitely ranks among his best work. 'Scenes from an Italian Restaurant' is really nicely done.

I hear quite a few of these songs on the oldies stations here also, and I agree, it does say a lot about the strength of this album. 'The Stranger' is my favorite of his second only to 'My Life' - love that one.

'Movin' Out' is a great song, I agree - I've liked it ever since it was current. It's been a while since I've heard 'Scenes from an Italian Restaurant' also, but that's another good one.

Sometimes I tend to forget how great this album really is until I see a list of the songs, or hear them played, but there are definitely lots of winners here. Two of my top three Joel songs ('The Stranger' and 'Just the Way You Are') are on this album.
