Thank God for great stereo systems. I can listen to this and hear each individual element as part of a whole. It's a beautiful thing.
Fleetwood Mac
The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac, Disc One
2002
1. Monday Morning
Nice track from the self-titled album. Cool guitar solo also.
2. Dreams
I used to swear by Rhiannon - until I discovered this masterpiece. Stevie's vocals are amazing. I love hearing her in that higher register. And I love Mick's parts on the words "heartbeat" and "thunder". There's also a great bass line in this song.
I just really can't put my immense feelings about this song into words. Um, you'll see that I'm gonna be like this on several of these tracks. Words are just pointless. If these songs don't make you feel something, you evidently have no emotions.
3. You Make Loving Fun
I'll be honest here. I was getting really frustrated trying to listen to this disc. I was like, "Where the hell is Christine?" I couldn't pick her vocals out on Stevie's and Lindsey's songs. Then once I did figure it out, I thought, "THAT'S Christine? That's a woman?"
I know. I'm a terrible person.
But now I like Christine's voice more and more each time I hear it. This song contains some really great vocals from her, and it also helped cement her status as my second favorite songwriter in the group. Also, the bass part in this song is exceptional. Some of John's best work, IMO.
4. Go Your Own Way
Lindsey's song to Stevie. One of the group's most-played songs. This is a solid track.
5. Rhiannon
Another great one. I just love Stevie's style of writing. You really ought to hear her solo piano version of this if you don't already know it. It gives the song whole new meaning.
6. Say You Love Me
I especially love having all three doing vocals on the chorus. Stevie gets into that high register again. More great work from John on this.
7. I'm So Afraid (Live, 1997)
Some of Lindsey's best work here, including this, comes from "The Dance". He does stellar guitar work and wonderful vocals here. I love the haunting keyboards also and the subtle back-up vocals from Stevie.
8. Silver Springs
And this is Stevie's song to Lindsey. It's so beautiful and longing at first, then becomes heartbreaking and pained. There's a lovely guitar solo from Lindsey here also.
9. Over My Head
Lovely track from Christine.
10. Never Going Back Again
This one's great. One of Lindsey's best, with some very well done acoustic guitar.
11. Sara
Excellent lyrics and I love Christine's keyboards on this. I love the way this song builds too. Stevie has this wonderful way of phrasing that makes each song sound like a story, a fairy tale, a prayer to the heavens.
12. Love In Store
This features some great harmonies between Stevie and Christine, which you don't hear that often without vocals from Lindsey as well. Excellent keyboards here.
13. Tusk
A quite unique track, I must say. Very well done though. Mick is really strong on this one. Lindsey is one creative, experimental man. He's always willing to bring new elements into his music, and he certainly did not fail here.
14. Landslide
Always a favorite, which I've heard Stevie do beautifully live. The acoustic guitar on this is gorgeous.
15. Songbird
Fantastic keyboards, beautiful pitch-perfect vocals. One of Christine's best.
16. Big Love (Live, 1997)
Also from "The Dance", this makes the studio version sound like junk. This is excellent, with superb work from both Lindsey and John on this.
17. Storms
Another great track from "Tusk", proving it to be a quite underrated album.
I will feature Disc Two next time.
