Many albums are named after one of the songs on it-
Sgt Peppers-Beatles Dog and Butterfly-Heart Abacab-Genesis Paranoid-Black Sabbath etc
But how about albums named after one line from a song?
Martina McBride-The Way That I Am From My Baby Loves Me. "My baby loves me just the way that I am."
Steely Dan-Katy Lied From Dr. Wu. "Katy lied. You can see it in her eyes."
Paul McCartney-Flowers in the Dirt From That Day is Done. "She sprinkles flowers in the dirt. That's when a thrill becomes a hurt."
Van Halen-Women and Children First From Could This Be Magic-"Better save the women and children first."
Van Halen-Fair Warning From Mean Street. "Someone shouted 'fair warning!' Lord strike that poor boy down."
There are many others! What can you come up with?

Elton John's 1985 album "Ice on fire" The song "Nikita": "With eyes that looked like ice on fire".
Ray Stevens' 1974 album "Boogidy boogidy" "Oh yes they call him the streak (WEE!) (boogidy boogidy)"
Bob Lind's 1966 album "Don't be concerned" "Elusive Butterfly" refrain: Don't be concerned It will not harm you It's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of, Across my dreams With nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love.

Ah, yes. I was just thinking not too long ago how many of those there are. Unofficial title songs, I call 'em. Here are some that I've got: Mary Chapin Carpenter, "Shooting Straight in the Dark" ("You can shoot straight in the dark"-from "You Can't Take Love for Granted") Hanson-"Middle of Nowhere" (from "Man from Milwaukee") Lulu-"From Crayons to Perfume" (greatest hits CD--title is from "To Sir with Love") I'm trying to think...I KNOW there are a lot more! I tape all my CD's and bring 'em to work, but I don't write down the song titles on them (no room)--just the album titles. I think 10,000 Maniacs "Our Time in Eden" would be another one, but I forget the ACTUAL name of the song! Sister Hazel-"Somewhere More Familiar" (from "We'll Find It") (trying to remember if Robert Plant's title "Fate of Nations" is in a song or not) (edited to say: never mind--I found it; it's in the song "Great Spirit"--I listened to it after I posted this and found it) Rich Mullins-"The World as Best as I Remember It" (from "Jacob and 2 Women") Shawn Colvin-"A Few Small Repairs" (from "Sunny Came Home") U2-"Rattle and Hum" (from "Bullet the Blue Sky") and "Under a Blood Red Sky" (from "New Year's Day") Billy Sprague-"The Wind and the Wave" (from "The Blessing of the Fleet"--I think that's what it's called--I'll have to check the CD when I get home) (edited to say: yes that is the correct title--I checked) Kim Hill-"Brave Heart" (_sort of_ from "Don't Face the World Alone"--what it actually says is "Even the bravest heart needs help sometimes") I just KNOW there are more--but I really don't have time to look. I'll have to wait till I get home. There are probably some REALLY obvious ones that will make me go "duh" and slap my head when someone else comes up with them first!

U2-"Rattle and Hum" (from "Bullet the Blue Sky") and "Under a Blood Red Sky" (from "New Year's Day") Forgot about Under a Blood Red Sky! Rush did just the opposite-had a Live LP called All the World's a Stage, and THEN included the line in Limelight years later.

Found some more:
Alan Jackson-"A Lot About Livin' (And a Little 'Bout Love)"--title is from "Chattahoochee"
Susan Ashton-"Angels of Mercy" (title is from "Better Angels Of Our Nature") Actually, she also has an album (which I don't have yet) called "Wakened by the Wind", and I remember hearing that line in one of her songs that got played on the radio when there was a CCM station here in St. Louis. I don't remember the song title, but I'm pretty sure "Wakened by the Wind" was not the song title.
Michael W. Smith-"The Big Picture" (from "Pursuit of the Dream")
Rich Mullins-"Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth"--the "stuff of earth" part is from "If I Stand", and I will check on the "winds of heaven" part. Off the top of my head, I can't remember if that is a song lyric or not.
The 10,000 Maniacs song I talked about yesterday is called "Eden". So that does belong on the list.
Kane Gang-"Miracle" (the word is repeated several times in "Motortown")
Also, I don't have either of these, but Starship's "Knee Deep in the Hoopla" gets its title from the song "We Built This City", and Walter Egan's "Not Shy" gets its title from "Magnet and Steel". I think I did find some more, but...darn, I should have written these down...

Forgot about Under a Blood Red Sky! Rush did just the opposite-had a Live LP called All the World's a Stage, and THEN included the line in Limelight years later. Also, IIRC, Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" actually got its title from a song of theirs that was NOT on the album. As for U2, I thought that their album "All That You Can't Leave Behind" should be on this list also, but I went home and checked the lyrics for the song "Walk On", and the lyric actually says "All this you can leave behind"--which means just the opposite of the album title. (12/10/04--Correction to above statement: Bono does say "all that you can't leave behind" during a spoken verse at the beginning of the song, which isn't on the lyric page with the CD.) This is a FUN thread!!!!

This is a FUN thread!!!! I was gonna mention the Zeppelin thing! They recorded Houses of the Holy, the song, for the album of the same name. They ended up not putting it on that album, but instead on the follow up, Physical Graffitti. Thanks for saying it's fun!

I've always found it really cool whenever people use lyrics as album titles, but I don't have any albums myself that are like that so I have no examples to give. Bette did do a comedy album in '85 in which the title is used in one of her bits. "Mud WILL Be Flung Tonight!"

I got one...
Elvis Costello's album "My Aim Is True" contains the song "Alison," which has the following lyric:
Alison... I know this world is killing you, oh Alison... my aim is true

The Doors had a live album (or was it a video? or both?) called "Alive She Cried", which is a lyric from one of their songs ("The End"? Am I right? Sorry my memory is so sketchy right now...)

Well, I've thought of a few: Alanis Morissette's album title "Jagged Little Pill" comes from a line in the song "You Learn": "Swallow it down, what a jagged little pill. It feels so good swimming in your stomach". Alanis also has an album "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie", a line taken from the song "So Pure". Melissa Etheridge's album title "Never Enough" comes from a lyric from "Ain't it Heavy": "Sometimes I know that it's never enough, survival is fine but satisfaction is rough." She goes on to sing "never enough" several times at the end of the song. Melissa also has an album titled "Skin". She has referenced the word "skin" in several of her songs. Some examples: It's Only Me--"I got out of the kitchen I couldn't stand the heat. Back into my skin and out on the street..." The Prison--"Night after night trying to get out of my skin, day after lonely day you'd send me back again." Please Forgive Me--"Please forgive me, if I don't know what to do, it's an old fire, this familiar desire, but my skin is painfully new." From the album "Never Enough", a song called Place Your Hand--"There are fragments of possession, shards of past relations, splintering my skin..." From the song The Boy Feels Strange--"And he speaks to me of business when I ask him how he's been. Keeps me at a distance, never getting under skin." From I'm the Only One--"Her eyes and arms and skin won't make it go away, you'll wake up tomorrow and wrestle the sorrow that holds you down today." From I Could Have Been You--"It's not so easy anymore, the way you used to keep score. Not so black and white the color of your sin. Take a walk inside my shoes, a path I didn't choose. Spend the night inside of my skin." Guess that's all I got for now.

Wanna correct myself. On Steely's song, they actually sing "Katy LIES." But it's close enough!
