Over the past few months, Adam has been finding a lot of great stuff in his library system, while I've been finding so-so stuff at my local library. But I recently found out that my library card is good at just about ANY local library (not the case 15-20 years ago, must be a new thing). Since there are several libraries within reasonable driving range, I've been going to check out their music selections. Over the past few weeks I've found a TON of great stuff to upload onto my windows media player, and didn't have to pay a cent (well, except for the 3.00+ GAS prices!)
So here are the CD's I've borrowed recently:
George Harrison-All Things Must Pass (2000 remaster) (upgrade from my original CD) The Who By Numbers (Remaster) (another upgrade from old CD) Nuggets box set (except for disc two. For some reason, they broke up this particular set, and had only discs 1,3, & 4 on the shelf. Disc 2 was out at the time. I'm waiting on it...) Sly & The Family Stone-There's A Riot Going On (Upgrade from vinyl) ZZ Top-Deguello (Another upgrade from vinyl) John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (Remaster) Lennon Legend Cat Stevens (or, "Yusef The Terrible")-Tea For The Tillerman Barry Manilow-Greatest Hits Volume 3 Barry White-Greatest Hits Buffalo Springfield-Again (HDCD remaster) The Who-Odds & Sods (remaster) Supremes box set The Everly Brothers-Cadence Classics Chuck Berry-The Great Twenty-Eight

Some excellent finds Pete! Nice! My branch of local libraries just don't seem to have the selection that they used to.

Excellent!! If you remember when I made my post about recent CD purchases and library rentals, I had just taken out that Nuggets box set. It's awesome!! (Some of he libraries here break up box sets-both CD & DVD-and some let you check out the whole thing at once.) I am going to check out the British Nuggets set too!!
I'm surprised to see Chuck and the Everlys on there since you are not as much into the 50s, but I'm guessing you are like me, always looking to hear stuff beyond the hits! (Which I know you are!)
I mentioned in one of those posts that with our library system, you can make requests for items from other libraries online! You should see if your library has the same type of system and save yourself the gas money!

As far as the 50's go, I do like and respect quite a bit of it, I just won't buy it, but I'll take it for free. I get SO sick of the same old songs, so, yeah, I do like to look beyond the hits. Plus, Chuck is a legend and the Everlys did amazing two-part harmonies. I've borrowed Buddy Holly and Little Richard collections in the past as well. Yeah, ordering is a possibility from the more distant libraries in our system, if I'm looking for a specific item. But for me it's a case of "well, what do they HAVE?" I'd LOVE to find the new Cameo-Parkway box set, but none of the local libraries have that yet. I just may have to buy that one..

I actually own a GREAT Buddy Holly 2 disc set! I know what you mean-by browsing you can come across an artist or an album you didn't even think of! That happened the other day at my own library when I picked up the best of Joan Jett & Jethro Tull. But it IS nice to just punch in "Beach Boys" and see exactly what is available in the system.

Those were some great finds, Pete! What I've heard of the Nuggets box set is excellent.
The library branch here in town doesn't have a very good selection of CDs, but there is one about 20 miles away that has had some excellent titles in the past, including some good box sets. I haven't been there in quite a while, but I definitely want to go there soon and see what they have.
