I believe I've said before that our town library pretty much sucks as far as CD selection goes, so I make lots of requests. I had noticed that many all came from the same library.
Well this library is about 15-20 minutes away, but it's really not a big thing to go to once in awhile as it's the town my wife lived in when we were dating, so we're both used to it.
So we decided to take a trip out there yesterday, and arrived about 25 minutes before closing. I figured since we made the trip, I may as well go ahead and take out as many I can, instead of waiting for the next trip.
So there is a combo here of whole discs I wanted to hear and CD's that had only 1 track I was waiting for.
So anyway, in my quick scan of what they had, here is what I picked up:
Bread-Retrospective (Rhino 2 disc) Blondie-The Platinum Collection (2 disc set) Pretenders-Pretenders Rolling Stones-Beggars Banquet (yes Pete, the remaster!) The Who-Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy Robert Plant-Principle of Moments (love this one, never upgraded my tape) Van Halen-Best of Both Worlds (wanna hear the new songs) Heavy Metal Hits of the 80's, Volume 4 10,000 Maniacs-In My Tribe (for Like the Weather) Siouxsie and the Banshees-Twice Upon a Time/The Singles (for Peek-a-Boo) 10 Things I Hate About You Soundtrack Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory-Special 25th Anniversary Edition Toon Tunes-Funny Bone Favorites (themes from cartoons) Toon Tunes-Action-Packed Anthems (more of the same)
Not bad for one quick trip! I was impressed so many good ones were sitting there on the shelf! They also had the Rod Storyteller and Elton To be Continued box sets!
So, whattya think?

Bread-Retrospective (Rhino 2 disc) Am looking to get this myself. Maybe I'll try to request it!
Rolling Stones-Beggars Banquet (yes Pete, the remaster!) The Stones ABKCO Remasters are some of the best sounding CD's I've ever heard.
The Who-Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy Got this, but have all the songs on better collections. Good starting point, though.
Robert Plant-Principle of Moments Upgraded mine in '95
Van Halen-Best of Both Worlds A buddy of mine has this. I have all the VH stuff except the new songs. Heavy Metal Hits of the 80's, Volume 4 Not many popular songs here, but LOTS of gems!
Siouxsie and the Banshees-Twice Upon a Time/The Singles Good collection!

Nice haul. Our library system in Seattle has one of the most extensive music collections (supposedly) in the country, and sadly I haven't taken full advantage of it.

Nice haul Adam. Bread - I've got the "Anthology Collection" so I'd get Retrospective to fill in. Blondie - Own this, great CD Pretenders - Need to upgrade from vinyl Stones, Who, & Plant - Would just like to get them.

Some great finds, Adam. I was eyeing that Bread Retrospective collection at one time, but decided to go with their Best of collection. Now I wish I'd gotten Retrospective instead, as it has some great David Gates solo tracks.

Siouxsie and the Banshees-Twice Upon a Time/The Singles Good collection! Beggars Banquet-I SWEAR that Mick's screams in the beginning sound different. Before they kindof trailed off whereas now it's like "OWW!" with nothing drawn out. The Who-Good starting point? Whattya think I'm a Who novice? LOL!!! Actually I was until the library! But remember, I've been taking out their original albums, in order. I'm up to Tommy now. I just got this cuz I thought there was some non LP singles and that maybe other singles were different from LP versions. VH-I still need to get the remasters. Heavy Metal-I didn't realize I knew New Thing from E'Nuff Z'Nuff. Good tune! Of course I already knew Rock Me, Down Boys, To Hell With the Devil, Turn Up the Radio. Siouxsie-Listening to it right now. Not really into it beyond the one tune.

Actually, what I meant was this was where I started, the first Who album I owned. My fave on the Metal CD is "Heartbreak Blvd." by Shotgun Messiah. LOVE that tune! "To Hell With The Devil" is OK, but "Free" is a much better Stryper choice... In all honesty, I'm less of a fan of Siouxsie now than I was say, 10 years ago.

And it IS a good starting point-honestly, I probably would consider it the best single disc compilation from them (since I prefer that stuff over the Who's Next stuff). Rock Me is actually on another volume, which brings me to my next post....
