Ever buy an album (or tape, or CD) that you thought would be really good, based on the strength of a song or two, only to find the rest of it absolutely sucked? I thought of three: Autograph-Sign In Please I bought this tape in '85 for "Turn Up The Radio". I got a kick out of their interviews in Hit Parader, thought they had a great sense of humor. But the rest of the album was crap, just couldn't get into it. There's actually a song called "My Girlfriends Boyfriend Isn't Me", which has a line that goes something like "It's so sad, that her kids won't call me 'Dad'". Pure garbage.. Queen-Hot Space Found this tape in a cut-out bin in '89 for $2. The nadir of their career. "Under pressure" is good, but most of the album is disco. Not impressed. Len-You Can't Stop the Bum Rush LOVED "Steal My Sunshine" in early 2000, was pissed that there was no CD single. Found the full CD months later for $3. The rest of the CD was all "YO, YO, YO!!" crap.... So, what are your regretted purchases?

The only CD purchase I can think of that I was really disappointed in was:
The La's - The La's
I bought this shortly after hearing the song There's She Goes when it was used in the movie So I Married An Ax Murderer.I had read a couple of reviews about the album and both critics loved it so I thought well I 'll take a chance. The other songs are ok, but none come anywhere close to the quality of There She Goes.
I've tried to give the album a "second chance" by listening to it again over the years but once again none of the songs really click with me. I still see the album from time to time in different critics "best of lists." So somebody likes it - I'm just not one of them.

Well, there's LPs I bought cuz of one song that I liked and then discovered that was the only song that I liked on the LP.
Cock Robin ("When Your Heart is Weak:")
Love & Money ("Hallelujah Man")
Quicksilver's Solid Silver ("Gypsy Lights")
Frampton Comes Alive ("Do You Feel Like We Do")
Generally before the late 60s, pop LPs had one hit on "em, and the rest was pure filler. At the end of the 60s, artists started to think in terms of deliveriing whole albums of great songs (the Beatles really got this going).

The Time's Ice Cream Castle comes to mind. I bought the cassette in 1986 mainly for Jungle Love, but could never get into the rest of it.
Falco 3 is another cassette I bought mainly for one hit. I loved Rock Me Amadeus, but the rest of the album at the time was disappointing. Vienna Calling has since grown on me some, though.
Mark used to have Frida's Something Going On on cassette. He loved the title track, but always complained that the rest of the album wasn't any good at all.

This used to happen to me ALL the time (too many to list). I would fall in love with one song and be so disappointed with the rest of the tracks. That's why I love the advent of Itunes etc. because you can just purchase those particular tracks.

R.E.M.'s "Up". Their 1998 album just sucked horribly. I promptly disposed of it.
Same deal with U2's "Zooropa". I just really couldn't get into that one.

I got rid of both R.E.M.'s Out of Time and Michael Penn's album-the one with No Myth.

Back in '93 a group named Brother Cane put out a self titled cd. There was a single called "Got No Shame" which I love. I didn't really care for the rest of the cd.
