Some of these I titled "Rock" albums, other times I just said album. So this one is just album! Plus, more of my M'ville buddies have signed on here so I hope they join in!
(Honestly, I don't know how many more artists I can do where I know several full albums from them!)
Evolution
Although The Way That I Am had her first top 10 hits and her signature tune (Independence Day) and Wild Angels had her first number 1 in the title track, this is the album where she really exploded with 2 number 1's, 2 number 2's, and a big mainstream break with the AC crossover hit, Valentine.
Emotion
Martina continued with crossover success with I Love You which cracked the pop Top 40 (and went to number 1 on the Country charts) and was from a big movie, as well as three other Top 15 Country hits. The album is strong all 12 tracks through.
Martina
Ok, this is one of those cases where you have to ask what the rules are. Do Greatest Hits count when they come inbetween two regular albums? They really shouldn't. But what about when they include some new recordings (in this case, 4 of them)? For my own purposes, it shouldn't count since it wasn't an actual full length new recording that was put out. So we jump ahead to Martina's self titled album. This is probably my fave by her, at least at this point. There's no question that Emotion was very pop influenced through and through (I still say Make Me Believe has We Belong era Pat Benatar all over it). But with Martina, she really got back to basics with not only traditional Country music, but also bluegrass and gospel sound. Sure you can hear the pop here and there, but that's the state of the game.
After this, Martina did an all covers album. She did the songs great, no question. But as much as I love to hear Martina sing anything, I really prefer her originals.
So, any opinions??
