Two more I just got last night...
JImi Hendrix at Monterey--this is the newer documentary--my old one was an HBO special by DA Pennebaker, and this one was produced by his son...EXCELLENT! It incorporates a lot of unused footagem as well as "alternate angles"...I started watching it last night, and stayed up lat to finish it! It also got interview with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding and even Chas Chandler before their untimely deaths, though Mitchell looked like a nebbishy British postal service worker--the rock life did NOT treat him well...
The other is the re-edited Elvis '68 Comeback special--it is NOT the "unplugged" special edition of the jam sessions, which is no longer available, but is an expanded version of the original telecast. There is a 3 disc DVD that has well over three hours of used and unused footage, including both jam sessions and both "leather" concert performances that were filmed. THAT will be next on the list!
I love the "archival video" look of the DVD--the color is fantastic, and the sound is excellent, and Elvis is of course incredible. It's worth it just to hear his live versions of "Lawdy Miss Claudy" and "Guitar Man"!

I got TOTALLY RIPPED OFF on a dvd this weekend--i bought "At Last the Beginning--The Making of Electric Ladyland", an extended version of the segment from the "Classic Album" series about the creation of the incredible Jimi Hendrix Experience album...
And there is NO AUDIO. The titles and menu sound fine, but the entire DVD is totally silent. I played it on two different DVD players--nuthin'.
Thank goodness I didn't toss the recipt! I've never bought a DVD with no audio--even my $1 Cisco Kid dvd's had audio!
