What music VIDEOS do you own?

[SAT-I need more room!!]

Awhile back, I asked what music DVD's you owned. I promised to do VHS tapes later, and I plum forgot!

Luckily, Ken told me to get my shit together and do the post. LMAO!!

For this post, I ask for ONLY official commercial releases. At a later date I will ask for bootlegs.

Below is my list with a brief description.


1. ABBA-Thank You
A collection of their videos. Out at the same time as Gold, but WAY more songs on this. Can't believe how many videos they made. Have never actually watched this tape. It was my in-laws and they were getting rid of it. I'll get in an ABBA mood again and watch it.

2. Beatles-Ready, Steady, Go!
One of the first two video tapes I owned. Very cool mini concert featuring one song each by the 4 boys, a medley of hits, and then all 4 trading parts on Shout! Worth it for that alone. My grandma actually bought this cuz it was a good deal. Then ended up giving it to me.

3. Beatles-First US visit
Cool documentary type, including their Ed Sullivan apppearance.

4. Beatles/Elvis
This is one of those cheapo tapes from the discount bin. I found it even cheaper when a store was going out of business. Never watched it yet.

5. Eric Clapton-Cream of
Very cool video collection dating back to the Yardbirds.

6. Crosby, Stills & Nash-Long Time Comin'
Got this before I was even the CSN-head you know today. I didn't even know Wooden Ships at the time! Cool documentary which includes parts on the 3 bands they came from.

7. Deep Purple-Heavy Metal Pioneers
Another cool documentary. Worth it alone for the clip of the original lineup doing Hush. Check out Ritchie's hair!

8. Def Leppard-Historia
Video collection. Bought it used at Blockbuster. Still in it's rewrap.

9. Foreigner-Feels Like the Very First Time
Yet another documentary. A good one, if I remember correctly.

10. Genesis-A History
Got this the same day as Clapton. They were 2 for $15. Covers the entire band up to that time.

11. INXS-Live Baby Live
I think I asked my dad just for the disc, but he got me this too. Never watched it yet.

12. Madonna-Live Virgin Tour
Bought this used at a huge warehouse when my wife was a bigger fan. Still in the rewrap.

13. Madonna-Girlie Show Live Down Under
My wife had seen this on HBO and liked it. Bought it for her one Christmas. Still in the plastic.

14. Paul McCartney-Put it There
Cool documentary around the Flowers in the Dirt LP, with concert & rehearsal clips.

15. Paul McCartney-Get Back
It's listed as "a major motion picture" on the cover. The concert is shot that way, like a "making of". I don't like it. Very weak.

16. Paul McCartney-Live in Concert in the New World Tour
The tour after Off the Ground. Still haven't opened it.

17. Pink Floyd-Live in Pompeii
This was a buddies who got rid of it. Nothing I would have bought, but cool bonus footage of the making of Dark Side.

18. Starship-Greatest Hits
Bought this "previously viewed" from a grocery store. Incomplete though, since it doesn't include Stranger!!!

19. Shindig! Groovy Gals
Got this primarily for the Shangri-Las (who are on the cover) doing Give Him a Great Big Kiss.

20. Rush-Chronicles
I wanted this more than the CD which I also got. Cool clips for Closer to the Heart and The Trees. Video collection.

21. REO Speedwagon-Video Anthology 1978-1990
Another video collection.

22. Rainbow-The Final Cut
Was SO happy to get this! One of the last ones I bought, but the tape is old style-opens on the side, and it's that silver box with blues stripes that so many music videos were in the early 80s. EXCELLENT video clips.

23. Queen-Champions of the World
Although I'm not a huge Queen head, my dad got me this documentary. Pretty cool.

24. Van Halen-Live Without a Net
The first one I ever had. And I watched it COUNTLESS times! Loved it.

25. Weird Al-His Greatest Hits
Still pop this in on occasion!

26. Yardbirds
Just a cool documentary that was released around the time of the Deep Purple one. Really cool clip of the Page/Beck-less lineup doing Heart Full of Soul (!), with Keith sporting a moustache.

27. Yes-Yesyears A Retrospective
EXCELLENT documentary of their entire history with great early clips.

28. Yes-Greatest Video Hits
Got this years later. Worth it for Wonderous Stories alone.

29. Yes-Yessongs
Their 1973 concert. Still in the plastic.

30. Zebra-Videos and more.
Was SO glad to discover this existed!! Was DYING to see the video to Who's Behind the Door? again. Plus about 5 other Zebra videos, one China Rain (Randy Jackson's other band) and 7 songs in concert from 83!

Let me think...I have Billy Joel's live video from Yankee Stadium; one by Diamond Rio that has just 3 of their videos on it; Steve Green's "Hymns" (CCM artist); Olanda Draper and the Associates (black gospel choir); one with a classical violinist (Erik Friedman, or Feldman? Sorry, I don't have my videos with me); U2's "Rattle & Hum"; the Beatles' "Help!"; "Evita"; "Song of Norway"; "Broadway Melody of 1936"; "The Boy Friend"; and a couple of the old operettas with Jeanette McDonald & Nelson Eddy. Off the top of my head, that's all I can remember. These are all videotapes; I don't have any music videos on DVD although my son has some Disney ones (even the princess ones, lol).

(edited to say: I said that because "Snow White", "Sleeping Beauty", etc. are usually thought of as "chick flicks"--but I agree that they are more than that. Also should add "My Fair Lady" to the list of music or musical videos I have.)

KISS - Konfidential - Four 70's live clips are included plus footage from the show that made up the Alive 3 CD. Plus a memorable backstage scene of a fan crushing a beer can with her boobs

KISS - Exposed - a documentary style video with Gene and Paul telling the history of the band plus various videos and vintage clips as well.

KISS - Extreme Close Up

KISS - Psycho Circus - with 3D Glasses


Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare - a concert filmed from the UK portion of the 1975 tour.


Free - Best Of Free - very cool tape containing 10 songs - the footage is made up of various promo films , The Isle Of Wight Festival , and TV - Beat Club and I think Top of The Pops.

Fleetwood Mac - The Early Years - Peter Green era. A very interesting tape with live concert footage and TV, Playboy After Dark , Beat Club etc.

Cheap Trick - Live In Australia

Deep Purple - Heavy Metal Pioneers - Band documentary
- interviews with each member of the band including Joe Lynn Turner !!! plus footage including Playboy After Dark and the '74 California Jam concert.

The Doors - Dance On Fire - Various video clips
- Live At The Hollywood Bowl - footage from 1968
- The Soft Parade - various video clips
- A Tribute To Jim Morrison - Documentary - interviews with Robbie , John and Ray plus producer Paul Rothchild


Glam Rock - TV footage from Top Of The Pops featuring - Sweet , Gary Glitter , T Rex , Wizzard (with Roy Wood) Alice Cooper etc.


British Big Beat - A film from 1965 that was I believe originally shown in movie theatre's at the time . It includes footage of The Hollies , Millie Small , The Swinging Blue Jeans , The Merseybeats etc.


The Monkees - Heart and Soul - Documentary - with interviews from Peter , Mickey and Davy and various clips including a Rice Krispies commercial that they did back in the 60's.

Tom Petty - Take The Highway Live - A concert filmed during the "Into The Great Wide Open" Tour.


My Generation - Rock In The U.K
My Generation - Psychedelic High -

My Generation was a show on VH1 hosted by Peter Noone and the various video clips were all taken from the Beat Club TV show.

Both tapes are 30 min each and feature Gerry And The Pacemakers , The Hollies , The Kinks , The Easybeats , The Small Faces , Donovan , Jethro Tull and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown etc.

- Who's Better , Who's Best - A video collection
- The Kids Are Alright - 1979 Documentary
- 30 Years Of Maximum R & B - A real treat if you're a fan this features various TV clips and alot of concert footage that was never before seen - a must -

Elton John - The 1984 "Breaking Hearts" Tour - a great concert because well it's Elton! plus the band included Nigel Olssen , Dee Murray and Davey Johnstone.


Cream - Fresh Live Cream - Documetary with interviews from Eric , Ginger and Jack plus various film clips .

Ok. You asked for it. In no particular order:

The Jett Age--Joan Jett and the Blackhearts videos. Has 11 videos, and also features several interviews with Joan from different sources. Excellent tape.

The Jett Age Part II--Features 13 more videos from Joan and the group. Good stuff.

Pat Benatar The Visual Music Collection--From 1987. Features You Better Run, Fire and Ice, Love is a Battlefield, We Belong, and several more.

Pat Benatar Live in New Haven--60 minute concert from 1983. Haven't watched this in awhile. Gonna have to have another look-see soon.

Janis Joplin The Way She Was--Documentary type film. Great video. Features interviews and live performances.

Amy Grant Find a Way--Five videos from her "Unguarded" album.

Amy Grant Music of the Spirit--This is from when Amy received some sort of award from Saint John's University. This was a big huge ceremony, and also features Michael W. Smith and Gary Chapman (Amy's ex-husband).

Amy Grant's old Fashioned Christmas--This tape still has $1.00 price tag on it from a garage sale. LOL! I've never watched it.

Amy Grant The Heart in Motion Video Collection--Features videos of "Baby Baby", "Every Heartbeat" and "Next Time I Fall", along with a couple others.

Amy Grant Building the House of Love--The making of Amy's "House of Love" album.

The Judds Naomi and Wynonna, The Farewell Tour--Self explanatory, I guess.

The Judds Great Video Hits--Mama He's Crazy, Love is Alive (My favorite Judds song), Grandpa, and Give a Little Love.

Madonna The Girlie Show Live Down Under--Hey Adam, I've got this one too. Mine's open, though. LOL! Has a $2.99 price tag on it from Blockbuster.

Madonna Justify My Love--The video that MTV banned.

Madonna The Immaculate Collection--Lots and lots of videos.

David Lee Roth--Features the videos for Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody, California Girls, Yankee Rose, and Goin' Crazy.

Wilson Phillips Shadows and Light--The making of the album, plus a couple of videos.

Trisha Yearwood The Song Remembers When--14 videos, from She's in Love with the Boy, to Walkaway Joe. Cool tape. I'm a big Trisha fan.

The Pretenders The Isle of View--Live London concert. I've never watched the whole thing. What I've seen of it is very good.

Heart--Videos for What About Love, Never, These Dreams, and Nothin' at All.

Fleetwood Mac In Concert--Mirage Tour '82. Haven't watched this in forever. Now I'm gonna have to again.

Indigo Girls Live at the Uptown Lounge--Concert from 1990.

Indigo Girls Live at the Fillmore, Denver, November 20th, 1999.

Carpenters Interpretations A 25th Anniversary Celebration--I don't think I ever watched this. If I have, I don't remember much about it.

The Best of Austin City Limits--Includes Waylon Jennings, Trisha Yearwood, Dwight Yoakam, Alison Krauss, Charlie Daniels, etc.

Rock 'N' Soul Heaven--Features Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson, Bobby Darin, Otis Redding, and Elvis, among others. Still in the cello. Never opened.

Casey Kasem's Rock and Roll Goldmine, The Sixties--Concert footage from Joplin, Hendrix, The Beatles, The Doors, etc. Sounds like a pretty cool tape. Maybe I'll watch it some day. LOL!

Rock Video Monthly--Includes Debbie Harry, George Michael, Tom Petty, and...Melissa Etheridge. Must be why I bought it.

Ladies of Rock--Has live performances from The Motels, Bonnie Tyler, Heart, and Suzi Quatro. Just watched this not too long ago. It's quite good.

Women in Rock--More live performances. From people like Carole King, The Bangles, Bette Midler, Tina Turner, Linda Ronstadt, and Pat Benatar, plus many more. Hmm...looks like I'll be watching this soon too.

Leather and Lace--Videos from Joan Jett, Kim Carnes, Sheena Easton, etc. Made in 1986.

And last but not least...Whitney Houston performing The Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XXV! Running time: 4 minutes, 30 seconds. I have no idea where I ever got this. Didn't even know it was in my collection. LMAO!

Deep Purple-Yeah, that's the one I have! I forgot about the Cal Jam footage, including Ritchie beating up the camera!

I have that Who special taped off TV. The Who for me is like Purple, Yardbirds, Foreigner-bands I enjoy but am not a HUGE follower (like I am of Poco, Yes, etc), but their history intrigues me. So while I don't have tons of albums, I DO have their video documentaries for the footage and info.

I have a version of that Who special taped off TV as well - I call it the "Much Music" version - it's about 70 min and includes interviews with Bryan Adams , Keith Richards and the singer from the Spin Doctors talking about the band - is this the same one you have ?

I haven't looked lately, but those videos were selling for 30 or 40 bucks on Ebay awhile back. I've toyed with the idea of selling mine, but I just can't part with it.

My daughter loves all the Disney Princess movies. And yes, they are thought of as "chick flicks", but even if I didn't have daughters yet, I would own most of them, especially Snow White and Sleeping Beauty!
