Okay, I know it's not really music related, but did anyone watch the Emmys last night?

Here are the results for all the major awards:

Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Doris Roberts, Everybody Loves Raymond

Supporting Actor in a Comedy: Brad Garrett, Everybody Loves Raymond

Supporting Actress in a Drama: Tyne Daly, Judging Amy

Supporting Actor in a Drama: Joe Pantoliano, The Sopranos

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Debra Messing, Will & Grace

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Tony Shalhoub, Monk

Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Edie Falco, The Sopranos

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: James Gandolfini, The Sopranos

Comedy Series: Everybody Loves Raymond

Drama Series: The West Wing

Here's my opinion in a nutshell:

As much as I love Everybody Loves Raymond, I was really disappointed that it won for Comedy Series considering what a great season Friends had last year. But, also, Friends took home that trophy at the last ceremony and as far as I know, Raymond has never won for Best Comedy before. I think Brad Garrett is hilarious, but he's won before. Peter Boyle should have gotten that one. He's the only one on the show who hasn't won.

Debra Messing for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series? What was the Academy smoking? She's the least funny of all the people on Will & Grace! I seriously think that what happened was that Patricia Heaton and Jennifer Aniston split the voting, which allowed Debra to sneak in there. Now all of the four main cast members on Will & Grace have taken home an Emmy...EXCEPT for the most deserving of them all: Megan Mullally.

I was very happy that Tony Shalhoub won. He was up against Matt LeBlanc, who should've won last year, but I think Shalhoub is wonderful on Monk and I'm glad that extremely well-written show is getting some attention!

I thought his show was a drama-comedy, not a straight comedy?

Even though I don't watch Will & Grace regularly, Megan Mullally is very funny on it. And I think Doris Roberts has already won several times, hasn't she?

Technically, I guess Monk is a comedy-drama, or drama-comedy (LOL), but it leans more toward comedy.

This was Doris Roberts' second Emmy in a row as Marie Barone, but she had already won once for St. Elsewhere, many moons ago.

That's like John Ritter's short lived show way back when, Hooperman. It was a comedy-drama.

I boycotted the Emmys: Usually Law and Order is at least nominated! (It never wins--but at least it's nominated!)

Awards ceremonies are a very important part of my life. I love to see GOOD actors and actresses get recognition for their work. I'm often disappointed in some of the awards, but it's always worth watching just to see the people that I like.

I just saw this post.

I'm a big awards show fan. I usually try to catch 'em when they're on.

I was happy to see Tyne Daly win for Best Supporting Actress. I love "Judging Amy" and she is great on it. It's about "Tyne" she's recognized for her work on the show. ;D But, why wasn't Amy Brenneman nominated for Best Actress? Hmm...

I don't watch "Raymond", but apparantly, the people who vote for the awards like the show, and the people on it, very much.

I don't watch West Wing, either. I was kinda hoping The Sopranos would win Best Drama. But the two leads won, so that's better than nothing.
Lora, you and I talked about this in IM's, but I'll say it here, too. An awards show, imo, needs just one or two hosts. All the comedians taking their 90 second turns on the show this year just didn't seem to work for me. It's just a little bit too much. Next year, I hope they do things differently.
